what's the consensus for people planning the trip over the next couple weeks? its the airplane that scares me
i aint flying anywhere for the foreseeable future. this week i cancelled 16 flights that i was scheduled to fly in as many weeks. some were for business, some were for a vacation. aint worth it. people are damn pigs and the airports are filthy. the head of the new york port authority caught the virus visiting the airports he manages.
went to lunch on sunday afternoon at a decent restaurant here in the states. go to the restroom and get to watch a dude leave the stall and walk out without washing his freaking hands. you can't turn on the media these days without hearing how important it is to wash your freaking hands. damn pigs. this is why we can't have nice things like low infection rates. the damn pigs.
as long as people behave like pigs, and places of business are filthy as pig stys, and this virus is circulating you best become a hermit. soon enough the states will be on lockdown with the national guard on every corner.
go cold ass mojo. dont hold back
sorry meant Mofo
Nope! The chance of getting the virus is as high as getting the flu. I work in the a hospital in Fl.
Va hospital. As long as you are healthy , you should not be afraid!
I second the bathroom comments. I am consistently amazed by the number of people who either talk on their phone while taking dumps and/or not washing hands. Seriously, no class.
We are taking our family down to Florida next month and I keep telling my wife to stay fluid. We are flying out of O'Hare, to Charlotte, into Orlando. That's two of the top 10 airports in the country. When I told her maybe a few weeks ago that we should rethink flying (and drive instead) she laughed at me. Not so much today. I just don't know. We are all young and healthy so I am not too worried, if anything I am more worried that our flights will be cancelled and/or modified. Makes me think let's just "Iron Man" it from WI and avoid the airports altogether. Anyway, just my two cents...
Unless we can't fly in, I'm still planning on celebrating my 60th birthday in April!
We still plan on going the first week of May unless we can't because of restrictions, cancelled flight, etc.
We are still planning on going mid-April.
By the way, you are probably just as likely to contract the virus eating out at restaurants as you are by flying.
our reach is in the first full week in June. Hoping things have stabilized by then...but we are keeping an eye out.
sad times for sure and this Coronavirus not going away anytime fast...…..ugh
so mi not going anywhere till the dust settles.....rather be safe where mi at than be sorry
unfortunately if you do travel anywhere there is a good chance you will be quarantined 14 days which defeats the purpose of taking vacations....
glad mi retired......just a waiting game for this guy
this stinks......and then some
Jah Bless
Cool Runnings, Marko
I still plan to be on my flight to Jamaica in 13 days, 21 hours and 56 minutes!
Will beat ya there! 7 days 4 hours and 26 minutes!
We have plans for May. I have a feeling the decision to come will not be up to us. As this virus spreads I think JA might close the borders to us like they did to other countries....or the US will be on lockdown like Italy is experiencing right now. Just my own opinion and I do hope it doesn’t come to this but JA would suffer much more than we could imagine.
My 25 cents. As a nurse of 30 years, it freaks me out that peeps are so dirty. I cant even tell you how many times i see peeps ignore even hand washing after bathroom duty. Hey , am not sure how my booked trip to negril is going to work out at this point. However, perhaps this time is a brilliant learning lesson? As in, washing hands?
Time to look at positives! I heard today that Jam has 1 case and she is quarantined. Also, Jamaicans wont even walk in the rain. I know that myself. Dang, if i try to educate. Nope! Lets plz not get crazy! For perspective—- as a nurse with an accidental needle stick, i got tested for a bunch, HIV, Hep C, TB. I received false positives on 2 lab tests. Hey, have nothing! A gf nurse friend of mine also received false positives. Thats a year of anxiety. Let’s put this into Perspective. After all of that, not so worried about a virus. Be careful and concerned, yes. Freak out, no.
First of all, there are two confirmed cases now. Won't even walk in the rain? a joke? I don't know where in Jamaica you go but where I go they all walk when they need to walk regardless of the weather.
An anecdotal personal case can not be extrapolated into this scenario. Good for you that you have nothing.
Agree that this is no time to freak out but, to not worry about this or any virus because of what you went through doesn't apply to the rest of us. I am concerned for Jamaicans especially in Kingston where the population is generally poor and crowded together in less than perfect living conditions. This was the same scenario that made both Zika and ChikV such a problem.
again...my opinion.
My group have decided to cancel for now, mainly because we do not want to bring anything in, and we do not want to be responsible for that in a country with such limited health care, I pains me not to be down there spending my money for the benefit of all the great people who serve us.
We are going to ask Idle awhile to rebook us for the summer .
SO far our flight is still booked so we will be there March 26th. Cannot live in fear!!!!
I would never cancel my flight because of this. Unfortunately, I fell on ice and am in hospital so I am cancelling because of that.
The chance of getting coronavirus are still less than being hit by lightning
Part of the problem with this calculation is that it would depend on whether you lived in a state where lightning was infrequent or in the lightning capital of Florida. Also, now when the virus has just begun spreading (like now) or projected density weeks and months from now. And, finally, if you shelter inside or run around with a tinfoil hat during a thunderstorm.
Warm temps do not kill this virus, it can survive 3 days in 98 degree temps.
Warm weather does help because as humans we are not all huddled together indoors but spend much more time outside and except for baseball etc. we are usually further apart preventing transmission.
The other part of the problem with a lightning comparison is that the numbers being reported in the media are only for confirmed infections, a small portion of the total number infected.
Where I live you can't get a test unless they can connect the dots to an infected person, or you travelled internationally. They tell you NOT TO GO TO THE DR OFFICE or ER, stay put and self quaranteen. Call 911 when you're close to dead. A local woman was in Los Angeles, travelled by plane, is sick as %$# after returning, infected her husband. They won't test her because she did not leave the country. Just turn your bedroom into a diy ICU. Easy as that.
Flu kills 0.1% of infections, probably less since many people don't report.
Cov19 kills 3 to 5% depending on what numbers you use. 30 to 50 times more deadly and it is highly contagious by people with no symptoms, unlike the flu where you are sick as ^%$# when you are infectious.
Try reading Scientific America and not CNN or FOX for health news.
Not sure where you are getting your numbers, but they are way off. Here are the number for flu deaths from the CDC
0-4 years 1.3%
5-17 years 0.4%
18 - 49 years 1.8%
50 - 64 years 9%
65+ years 48.7%
Maybe Scientific America should fact check with the CDC.
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/2018-2019.html
That is the percentage of all deaths for the age group, not the mortality percentage.
Out of all the people who die from the flu, 48.7% of them are 65 and older. You don't have a 48.7% chance of dying from the flu if you are over 65.
Apple's to oranges
what....?
I was told a long time ago the figures lie and liars figure!
Per the Center for Disease Control and the South Korean equivalent - South Korea 66 deaths per 7,869 cases or 0.84% overall mortality rate. US 38 deaths per 1,358 cases or 2.80% overall mortality rate. The CDC has also estimated that 15,000 people in the US have died from the flu this season.
It is too early in this pandemic to claim exact mortality rates. There are too many variables in play right now to calculate.
What is known is this virus has a much higher mortality rate the older you are and is very contagious.
Italy has surpassed 1,000 deaths from the virus. Some say this is due to Italy having the oldest population on average in Europe.
I have three business trips within the US in the next 60 days and as of right now, I don't plan on cancelling these trips. However, if it comes to pass that I would be required to complete a mandatory quarantine because of the travel, then I would probably not travel.
Remember to cover and cough. Wash your hands thoroughly and often with hot water and soap.
Unfortunately, I have a job that can't be done from the comfort of my home.
Prayers for all those that are suffering tonight.

Oh no heal well.......
Point of view: Imagine last years pain in the ass airport hassle getting into Jamaica being delightful next year:encouragement:
heading down tomorrow. flight's at 9:30 a.m....
I am still planning on going to Negril - March 23. Only if the USA is included on the list - as the UK is now - would keep me away.
Waiting to see if our April travel plans get squashed by this world travel ban trend :(
For now, we are proceeding as planned.
We are booked with our Granddaughter for June. We still have time before having to make a cancelation decision. But I am among the older Americans with underlying health problems; so there's that. Hopefully, it will all be behind us by then and we can go back to buying toilet tissue like we always did.
i'm actually less worried about toilet paper than i am about rice!
i usually buy a 20 lb bag of jasmine rice on amazoncom for $22 to $24 bucks- it now costs $60.
i went to a mid-sized, overpriced supermarket in my neighborhood and the shelves in the rice aisle were virtually empty. i scored 2 5lb bags of arroz rico brand enriched rice for $2.99 each and felt like i won powerball.
What happens if they screen at the airport in Mo Bay, you test positive/have symptoms, and they don't let you on the plane back home? Plus, you are required to self-quarantine for 14 days? Then what?
