I bring nips in my plastic baggy....50 cents a nip is cheaper than 3-4$ on the plane. For a flask, IMO it's better to buy a small bottle of JB overproof and refill it as needed plus some bars will refill it.
Last Sept on our way to Vegas we had those little shot size bottles and we were told we're not allowed to drink our own alcohol on the plane(after we'd each already had 3 :) )
Discretion is the key
Absolutely! I don't understand people who don't even try to be discreet. I was on a flight last week and the flight attendant had to make an announcement because of the group who brought their own liquor on. Having a tray table of miniatures that the flight attendant didn't sell you is a dead giveaway! :D
Back in the 70's when smoking cigarets was still allowed, on a flight from MoBay to JFK somebody in the back of the plane lit up a spliff. Talk about flight attendant freak out, I think she even had the pilot come back to tell the guy to put it out.
We have bought duty free in Jamaica, you just need to make sure you have room in your checked bag to put them in after you land to put your bottles in when you get through customs, if you don't get them into your checked bag before your next flight, you will lose them to security.
I like Italian wine and put two bottles in each of our checked bags, bubble wrap, tape, no problem.
