Re: Exchange rates in Negril
Thanks guys- that really helps!
Anyone confirm... I believe I read it somewhere...
is there is a cambio right across the street from CoCo?... if so is this a 'fair rates' sort of place or a 'go down the road for better rate' sort of place? thanks again
Re: Exchange rates in Negril
Cambio,s are at : Boardwalk Village, usually the best rate
Right in front of Bourben Beach
Just past the traffic circle in town.
Banmark, westend motorcycle joint not far from Hungry Lion.
Re: Exchange rates in Negril
So if we were to go spend the evening at Seastar eating and drinking,is it worth converting US dollars to Jamaican dollars??
Re: Exchange rates in Negril
You need to watch some of the smaller places, as they seem to be using the old conversion rate to their benefit.
Example - Had dinner at 3 dives last week. They are advertising their lobster dinner for 2500 J, or $28.00 US.
I noticed this in several other small places.

Re: Exchange rates in Negril
just dont get caught up for saving pennys....some will spend 10.00 us in cab rides to save 5 us in converting..I guess the ride is a plus......
and its not good for the tourists...everything sooner or later will reflect the increase...just like at home.....your dollars or what ever you use is worth less.......
I'm sure I have some from mids 80"s here is a sample of 1989..that I can find right away.......

There is no need to convert money going to Seastar. There menu is priced in us$ and they will accept us$ and their current conversion rate is us$1 to j$100.
Re: Exchange rates in Negril
Thanks Rob,kind of thought that was best but was looking for your opinion, see you guys soon!!
Re: Exchange rates in Negril
Yes, Seastar prices in U.S.A. dollars for everything including the menu, rooms bar, tours, transport etc. but are just as happy to convert to J if you so desire at an honest and favourable rate as Rob points out.

$1 to 100J, that is so much easier, unfortunately :)
