TicToc - What a scary story. Good momma!
I havent been back since they wouldnt serve me and my friend. Something needs to be done about this though.
I am in TOTAL agreement with Fredstripe! Ricks is a total tourist trap and if they aren't willing to try to help protect their major clients.....all of us tourists.....then they are shooting themselves in the foot and they will all be out of business. Owner, servers, bartenders, cliff divers, etc...etc...without the tourist market they all have no $$$$ coming in.
If they allow this to continue.......where will their next paycheck come from......?
Something for the owner and workers at Rick's Cafe to ponder...................
The fella who posted the long report on TA is also on Negril.com under the name DBrook, I met him on the One Love tour the next day and can confirm that the group of people who were with him said exactly the same thing as he posted. Its too bad that it is allowed to happen cause it can leave a bad impression on many who it happens to and cloud their opinion of a beautiful place!
Looks like its going on right now....

"Looks like its going on right now.... " ????????? My eyes must be bad????
I was watching the webcam this afternoon, and there was a group of 4-5 young boys and men on the cliff watching for a bit, then they all jumped into the water and went into the cave and were calling/motioning for the jumpers to come over to them. I watched numerous people disappear around the corner into the caves.
The webcam got all cloudy about a 1/2 hour ago, they swung it out towards the sunset and then you couldn't really see anything anymore.
My family and I are planning to go to Rick's on Sunday the 7th of April. I know a few of our group will want to jump. We will probably watch for a while and deside if it's a good idea or not. If any one here knows,do you pay to jump and if so maybe the answer would be to pay on the way back up THE LADDER! Hmm just thinking out loud.
Lets say you wanted to take this little cave trip. What would be a fair tip if anythign?
whatever you think of, they will always want more.......its like Kidnapping
Dconkle..... they can go ahead and jump, I recently did. Swim over to the ladder like you always would, when he pulls out the ladder, look at him sternly in the eye and tell him to put the ladder back in....
If you are going to jump, I recommend leaving your money with someone at the top. You will be hassled for money by each lifeguard there every time you see them.
I put a few hundred J in the box at the top before I left. If you have one or two that lifeguards that help you out and make the day enjoyable, tip them directly before you leave.
I didn't realize at the time how dangerous jumping into water at that distance was. Many people have been injured attempting it, but thousands of others have had no problems. I went straight in and it still felt like someone slapped me on the ass as hard as they could.
I'm confused, we're tipping lifeguards now?
So it's the guards, the divers and the cave dudes?
ha. I don't remember all this action before but that was 14 years ago.
Thanks negril#1 fan!
I went in just a "little" crooked and all the force went to my azz bone. It was sore for days????
have you noticed that Blue Cross / Blue Shield has a quick clip of Rick's Cafe in one of their recent commercials?
I've jumped in straight, wrapped the girls up straitjacket style, and still came out feeling like I had bruised ribs.
Can't remember the name of the website by the Canadian lady who was paralyzed jumping from Rick's.Alot of people on that who tell of their injuries. You will never see me risk a great vacation by taking that plunge.
Totally agree! (plus I am afraid of the deep water, so I would never jump... ever!)
A few years ago when we were in Montego Bay there was a young girl on her honeymoon staying at our resort (I think they were 2-3 days in at that point still had a week to go) they took a day trip to Negril and she jumped, hit the water wrong and was in a full back and neck brace. I felt so bad for her, you could see the pain on her face... What a way to spend your honeymoon! :(
