You can do it!!! We are all here to support you!!! If I can do it, anyone can! Also lost 50 pounds in the last year. The first 30 pounds came off pretty easily but those last 20 pounds were a doozy, and I would still like to drop 20 more! What I do is cut carbs (stick with around 30 g a day) and eat a diet of lean meat, vegetables, seeds, nuts, eggs. To treat myself, once a week I allow myself 60-80 g, and indulge a little within reason. It was hard for me to cut down on fruit, but I still eat some berries every day. Also try to exercise for an hour 6 days a week, daily eat 6 cups of raw or cooked veggies, and drink LOTS of green tea and water. The turning point for me was realizing if I cheat, I get back on the wagon the next day, as opposed to giving up and then gaining more weight than what I originally weighed. If I have a stressful day and stuff my face with food, I forgive myself and carry on.
One more thing, if you seriously crave ice cream, try having 1/2 cup of frozen Cool Whip (add some nuts and/or berries), which is much lower in carbs than ice cream. If I'm desiring chocolate, sometimes macadamia nuts will cure that until my "splurge" day when I usually do indulge in a little dark chocolate. There are lots of low carb recipes with nutritional info on the internet.
Hi Okema,
The easiest way to moderate your food is to cut portions in half, (that way you are not having to eat differently from your family) be careful of the rice and peas, steam/bake/ broil instead of frying, no sweets (but allow yourself ice cream (small) once a week (try sherbert instead of ice cream) lots of veggies, & fruits (they do have lots of sugar so moderation again), fish......no gravy/sauces. And dance, dance, dance whether it be zumba or sat night at sea star, and walk the beautiful beaches (great for the booty).....XXX
One thing I've found over the last year, being generally successful, is to keep track of everything on Fitness pal and stay within my limits six days a week. One day, I go over a BIT and eat something fun in limited quantities...like pizza...nachos etc. I STILL track that so I can see the implications of that food. Then once a month I eat dessert...anything I want. It helps to know that I can actually go a month without sugar and its also good to know that I CAN have a yummy dessert once in awhile. I try to plan that around dinner parties or celebrations so I don't feel deprived. Again, it needs to be a way of life. For me it was partially finding out I was diabetic. It gave me that kick in the butt. But after a year, of avoiding white foods...my doctor said I must be doing SOMETHING right because she said really...with these results, I'm not in the diabetic range anymore...
There is a lot of good advice here. Fresh is best. Allow yourself to splurge on that ice cream maybe once a week and try swimming in the sea for at least an hour each day. Limit your carbs and watch your portions and you will see that weight start to go slowly but surely.
I've lost quite a few pounds, mainly from depression of not being in Negril. I return in July and all bets are off.
Thank you SKB this really helped. I have been trying the detox thing with only fruits and veggies but i feel like my stomach is going to eating itself from the inside out. I am still trying though. I have been drinking tonnes of water but i have actually gained 2 lbs it seems.
