I'm thinking of spending one night on the westend when I am there next month. I'd like to spend a day roaming around up there and not have to come back to the beach that night. Just one night- any suggestions?

Maybe Xtabi?
xtabi was on my "check out" list ccolman! thank you! Have you stayed there?
Blue Cave Castle,,,cant beat it,,,very ecletic place to stay, no pool, though,,,but it is still a castle and on the cliffs
Sea Star Inn,,,,very comfortable surroundings ,,couple of blocks off the west end , and inexpensive
I have stayed at both
Thank you negrilbound - I want to keep it cheap- which one? Blue Cave looks amazing
I too, recommend the Blue Cave Castle. If they have vacancy, I'm sure a guest with cash in hand could stay for one night. I think the 3 night stay is a requirement for making online reservations.
Not sure of your budget but Hide Awhile is an amazing property with private 2 story cottages with a full kitchen. very secluded. Think they have a pool now. It way at the end of the cliffs though as they face west. Blue cave castle is great as I love the Penthouse suite and is very affordable. No AC but 100 feet above the water so great breezes. Not sure on the minimum stay though.
You can get Mirage for about $80, great seaview, AC, bed, fridge, continental breakfast. Beside Tensing Pen, close to Wise Choice, Sharks, Ahhbees.
I wanted to edit and lost the whole thing! Rats!
We have stayed at Sunset on the Cliffs a number of times. It ain't the Ritz, but it's great. The pool is one of the loveliest around, the view can't be beat - you may even see the dolphins frolicking by; the staff are friendly, warm, professional. You are steps away from Eddy's Da Bar, a convenience store, Sips 'n Bites (a must!), Erica's. There is a fruit stand that is great right across the street in front of Eddy's. Security is great - love Melvin - if you go, give him a hug from me. They have gone through some recent changes, and are out to please! I have never asked for anything that didn't magically appear - including a happy hour! They were $50 a night last summer; maybe you can get that rate. Secure safe in every room. Beautiful grounds (Dudley is a love! Their groundskeeper - give him a hug, too, for me, please). The cliff side terracing is gorgeous! Fridges are available for an upcharge of $10 a day and the bar will happily provide you with ice. AC works well.
The rooms are bigger than most! A bit dated, but big and serviceable.
Safe? Accidentally left $$ out one day, and it was neatly left on the bedside table, along with my Kobo. Honestly. We had to chase housekeeping to take the room tip we left for them!
PM is you want the manager's cell number. He's awesome and ready to deal! Never had a problem that wasn't solved instantly to our satisfaction. Like I said, out to please. Oh, and the AC is good - but let them know you want functioning AC and check it before you take the room. They will move you or make it right.
Catcha Falling Star is my recommendation.
My 3 favorite places are Rockhouse Rockhouse and the Rockhouse. Next would be Catcha.
Catcha Gardens.
Wonderful recommendations everyone- thank you for the pics too. Since its just one night, and I will still have my room on the beach - I wanted to keep it right around 60-70 a night. M&G- Sunset is pricing about 80.00 a night- you said $50.00 last summer! Oh! - that would have been nice. I love them all. Ras Walleye said maybe cash in hand would work- I wonder if I should just have a few properties in mind and just go up there and see what I can get instead of reserving.
Thanks TAH. I'm leery on finding a room on the fly only because I just have one night up there and don't want to waste time finding a room when I want to use the hours to explore the area.
Catcha Gardens is right in budget. Lovely pool, great neighborhood, awesome staff, large comfy rooms, security is excellent.
Summer special going on now is $49/night.
49.00? Now that is my kind of rate ohliz! Thank you I will check them out
Thing is... your not really "on the fly" you still have a room on the beach! Your in a position to WIN
Head up and do the walk in thing- price will be sweet- especially when you tell them that you have a room already on the beach and just want to check it out for a night.
explore the area while you find a room! :)
What is more closer to everything- Catcha Gardens or Xtabi?
Petrona? I will send an email or should I call? Catcha Gardens rate is very, very tempting. They emailed me right back and are offering US$49.00 per night. Xtabi also responded at US$67.00 a night.
What about Home Sweet Home?
Haven't given HSH a thought Patricia- hmmm- will check them out!
Depends what "everything" is. They're a good couple of miles apart.Quote:

CFSG is close to Rick's, Catcha, Seastar, the lighthouse, the far west end (Out of Town Pastry and Just Natural and such).
Xtabi has 3 Dives next door and is closer to town and the "lower" west end - Canoe, etc etc.
I personally think 3 Dives is the main attraction for me by Xtabi, otherwise I prefer the area around CFSG - less traffic, fewer people, just nicer to walk around.
Thanks Ohliz- I've got the map in front of me now and appreciate your link to it. I think I had this many, many years ago. Happy to have printed it out- makes things easier.
CFSG is right across the street from LTU as well. I'm staying the beginning of January and VERY impressed with their quick and very helpful emails. I can tell they have customer service right. Really looking forward to my stay. Have had excellent personal recommendations. The rooms are huge I'm told and an incredible price.
