;)- my fork is ready!!:)
That must have put up a long fight.
That's a Marlin
Thanks Capt. I thought it was but the guys insisted it was kingfish. I just edited the name.
Yeah, that's a Black Marlin. He looks delicious.
Does anyone know Where it was caught? who was the capt go the boat?
Mmmmm... smoked Marlin.
when I had checked into fishing after first joining the forum, everyone told me not to waste my time and money. judging by the comments this doesn't seem to a regular occurrence to catch fish like this. I would be interested in learning more about the trip. Was this an 8 hour trip that took some time to get out of the immediate waters around the island that have been overfished? I'm totally down for an 8 hour trip but if this is a anomaly rather than a regularity, maybe I'll just stick to the sand gravity... thanks in advance for any other information
I'd be interested too. Great catch!

stacko66,
I have fished off Negril (Rod & Reel) on several occasions many years ago. Best result was two 5 lb Bonita's. Marlin Fishing in Jamaica is generally done over Ocho Rios way where the water is really deep. They used to have a yearly tournament with some world class fishing boats. Not sure if it was a private gig or if there were charter opportunities. Treasure Beach is another area where big fish are caught mostly kingfish, wahoo, dolphin, tuna and occasionally billfish. San Pedro Banks, deep water. Ask for Capt Talla you can contact him through Kory South at Sunset Resort & Villas.Attachment 40258Attachment 40259Attachment 40260Attachment 40261Attachment 40262
PS For all you who like to read books, Hemmingway "Old Man And The Sea" truly a fishing (Marlin) epic!!!!!
Now, that's no fish story!!- pictures are proof:)~ Kool thread!:D
thanks johng! I don't think I'll be making it to ochi to fish, so maybe I'll just try for an afternoon with someone around negril. It wasn't the sole purpose of the trip, so no worries mon! Those are some nice fish and especially the mahi-mahi...mmmm my favorite, lemon peppered mahi mahi...mmm. Heres one of me the last time I was in mexico with a 50lb rooster fish. My other trips have spoiled me but I enjoy trying whereever I go. Negril rod and reel sounds like the answer and I'll take 5lb bonitas anyday, they eat well!!Attachment 40268
stacko66,
Treasure Beach isn't too far from Negril although when I fished in Negril we didn't go too far offshore so maybe you can get a good captain to take you to some fish.
50 lb Rooster Fish is pretty big isn't it??? That's nice!!
Talla over in Treasure Beach told me he has seen it there were so many Mahi-Mahi that the water was pure green. imagine that??? He told me too that the Baracuda (I thought you couldn't / shouldn't eat) they leave it out and if the ants come and eat and die it's bad, if they don't it's edible.
hey john, yeah that was the biggest of the five we caught that day. We had two times that we had two of them on simultaneously, so you understadn that I have been spoiled. I'll have to take a look at the treasure beach possibility. I have a group of 5 and I know they aren't into fishing enough to spend the time and money for a full day trip, but I can be very convincing ;-) so we'll see. if I saw that many mahi mahi in one spot, I'd probably just dive right in!
stacko66,
Plenty to do over TB way. Leave your friends at the Appleton Estate Rum Tour tasting bar while you go fishing. Wait a second you don't want to miss that!!! Black River fresh water fishing and if you got a significant other that's givin youz a hard time there is a River Safari there where they feed a Croc. Get what I'm sayin???Attachment 40273
Stacko, I bring my rod everywhere I go. Have been going to negril for 15 yrs. I stopped bringing it a couple years ago, just wasn't catching anything. I have seen some bonito jumping but not very often. I am thinking of bringing it this feb with the idea of hooking some barracuda. I was in the keys last year and found a killer lure for cuda and was thinking about giving it a try this year in negril.
hahaha johng! Yeah she can get on my nerves occasionally, but if I'm going to paradise I'm sure not gonna let any little nitpicking get to me, and shes way too pretty to use for croc bait. I've looked at the appleton tour and looks real fun. We would probably try to do that and YS on the same day. DSF might not be in my itinerary for this time but I'll sure try a bit of fishing with a local not far off shore to say I tried it, as Mtig suggested. I'm not gonna hassle with bringing a pole but I'll get creative if I need to. Relax have a smoke and let the waves push me around for a while. Either way I'll be on island time, so no worries mon!
stacko66,
You are putting words in my mouth dude. Croc bait???? For your gal??? where did you get that idea??? Man you must a been thinkin this stuff up already. My point to you was there is nothing worse than on a great trip to JA, A guy wants to go for an innocent little fishing outing and a girlfriend, wife goes on a wussie fit about it !!!
Now unless your a rookie in these matters, or your chic digs battling the deep sea in hopes of catching a fish then leverage is the equalizer right??? How does a gal punish her man other than breakin balls??? Yea you know the answer to that one!!! So you come up with a compromise of some sort that she gets what she wants and you get what you want. Fair is fair!! As they say there's plenty a fish in the sea!!! As a fisherman you know that like tying a six - turn San Diego jam!!!
Last time I tried carrying on a fishing pole I the airline wasn't very receptive so like you I know I can find the equipment I need on location.
If you really want to have some fun (what red blooded American Fisherman doesn't) deep-sea, offshore, salt water contact Captain Raymond Moxam AKA TALLA
Attachment 40303 He can also be reached through Kory South at Sunset Resort & Villas, a very nice restaurant hotel in Treasure Beach. Kory is a hard core fisherman and always catches big fish with Talla.
Wishing you a great trip and hope that that Croc at the Black River Safari only gets chicken for lunch!!! HAHAHA!!!
One of our earliest trips to Negril I went out with a captain and boat which are no longer there. It was slow season and he wanted to fish so offered to take me out for the price of the gas. We went out beyond the reef and trolled for about 3 hours and caught 6-7 tuna and a barracuda. When we came back in he sold the fish to locals, I remember that the barracuda was cut in half and purchased by two different people.
I kept one of the tuna which we took to Pirates Cove where my wife and I returned that evening for dinner. It was still to this day the best fish meal we have ever eaten.
