Damn Horse Just Missed Stepping on My Foot!
I was getting patties from the patty man. I was standing there beside his bike, barefoot in the sand, handing over cash, when I felt something on my left foot. I looked over, a horse with a tourist on it was walking by, right beside me. The horse had stepped very close to my left foot, so close that it had splashed sand up onto the top of my foot.
I cursed out loud and the patty guy said something to the effect that, 'Deh have no respect, mon.'
Yeah, I'll say, had the horse stepped on my foot I'm sure I would have sustained several broken bones and contusions.
Be very careful on the beach when horses are around, the losers that tend the horses care nothing about your safety.

Re: Damn Horse Just Missed Stepping on My Foot!
we are not fans of horses on the beach either, not only for safety but the crap on the beach, soon come

Re: Damn Horse Just Missed Stepping on My Foot!
This is a very busy tourist season and in some places the beach is so crowded you are either walking through the sunbathers or right on the shoreline. We were walking along and here comes one of the racing horses with a local on it's back. I grabbed my wife and ran into the water. If I hadn't it would have been bad. He was playing chicken with me and the horse would have won. This is the second time that almost the exact same thing has happened to us. At some point a tourist, most likely a child not paying attention is going to be seriously hurt or worse. As with the jet skis that is when something may be done.
Speaking of jet skis. I think it was Saturday night February 21st, we see two jet skis being put in the water. They spent an hour or two racing up and down along the beach. Someone said the police had been called but I never saw them. We left the next day so I don't know if they are legally back or not.

Re: Damn Horse Just Missed Stepping on My Foot!
Jamaicarob, we were at Beachhouse Villas enjoying breakfast and one of the horses walked by and took a dump in the water. I could not believe how large an area of the water turned disgustingly brown. People that didn't see it happen walked right into it. Didn't make breakfast very appetizing.

Re: Damn Horse Just Missed Stepping on My Foot!
Agree with the above. Horses have no place on the beach. Disgusting!!!!
-
Re: Damn Horse Just Missed Stepping on My Foot!
In response to rumlover We asked the same question and were told that they were privately owned ,so they were legal I guess

Re: Damn Horse Just Missed Stepping on My Foot!
Negril needs our opinion on this too: The horses, no the operators, do great making the beach and water experience often a nightmare. Tall buildings and stuff, well what about a plan to stop the mess and the horrible and seemingly getting worse problems inflicted by those horse operators? Nuff said.

Re: Damn Horse Just Missed Stepping on My Foot!
I was at Treehouse in Jan when a galloping horse almost ran over a lady taking pictures - she noticed at the last minute luckily... and they 'poop' in the water all the time - a safety issue and also disgusting.

I was with a hotel owner while the two jet skis were in our waters. The fact they were indeed privately owned and not for commercial use did create some legal questions that have, to my knowledge, been addressed. Private owners will need to follow the same restrictions as commercial businesses.

Re: Damn Horse Just Missed Stepping on My Foot!
A horse got sand on your foot while on the beach, this causes me great concern. Who in their right mind put that sand on the beach? Who put the tourist on the beach that rode that reckless mover of sand? It is well known that I have no love for horses causing tourist such stresses....it's not the Jamaican way..... Next thing you know those camels outside of Mobay will be trotting along the beach disturbing the sand.
Sarcasm is hard to deliver in a proper non sand disturbing fashion over the internets with horses everywhere so please refrain until the jet skis return.

Exactly my point but in much less words. Actually with only 3 letters that don't form a proper word you summed it up much better than me. Together we can keep those stinking camels in Mobay, and create laws to keep sand off of the feet of tourist that are walking good, writing stuff online and for the love of Jah trying to walk a sandy beach without getting sand on their feet.
On a serious note, walk by the police station late at night and see the horses out front. Lay down and ponder why they are there and why this seems to be the crime of the decade (sand disturbing horses) and why the police are not defending the feet of entitled tourist. Walk Good with all of Jah's creatures even the sand movers.

Re: Damn Horse Just Missed Stepping on My Foot!
While proximity to shoreline is an issue perhaps, where do you think whale poop..shark poop.....dolphin poop....fish poop....seagull poop.....crocodile poop...ends up? Pretty sure these horses aren't the only ones making "deposits" in our precious ocean....just food for thought

Re: Damn Horse Just Missed Stepping on My Foot!
Should have seen the horse w/ the tourist trying to get past the crowd at the Boat Bar yesterday!!! She looked nervous.....the tourist, that is.....the horse didn't care who it bumped into!

Do the whales,Sharks ect. spread hook worm ,ring worm and round worm? Most of us walk the beach in our bare feet. Just food for thought

Thank you Gman!
There are many beaches in North America that do not allow dogs. That law is there for a reason. It is a risk to public health.

Re: Damn Horse Just Missed Stepping on My Foot!
Don't they have any glue factories in Jamaica? That is all they are good for anyway.
-
Re: Damn Horse Just Missed Stepping on My Foot!
ECO - I think the original posting stating the 'sand got on their feet" was using that point to describe how close the horses hooves came to their feet. Get a clue.
-
Re: Damn Horse Just Missed Stepping on My Foot!
If they could make glue out of the careless operators thst would be ok. Not the poor horses.

Re: Damn Horse Just Missed Stepping on My Foot!
I'm just glad the jet-skis are back.

Kahuna:
Happy you were not hurt. Really enjoy your posts. It is so sad they cannot get that small stretch of beach under control.

Ugh unfortunately I wish the riders usually tourists were more aware of the fact that no one wants to swim around crap
-
Re: Damn Horse Just Missed Stepping on My Foot!
sadly, the horses are just an accident waiting to happen- they don't belong on the beach...last reach saw a tourist on a horse and just a baby puppy was barking out of control and trying to nip at the horse- while the horse was clearly agitated with a tourist on his back...was just a bad scene
and when they run them down the beach-scary...I worry for the kids building castles in the sand.
-
Re: Damn Horse Just Missed Stepping on My Foot!
Yeah Kimbobwee..it looked like they did that one purpose so they wouldn't have to pick it up..there were lots of people going in the water after the horse did that..and several young children.. it made me finish my bottle of rum on the spot and swim a ways down from there..
-
Re: Damn Horse Just Missed Stepping on My Foot!
taking pictures when on horse.... doubt that they knew the horse was "dumping". got a good giggle thinking that when they return home and view their pics they would know exactly more of their horse experience.
