I had Step Aside on my list but never made it there. ;(
Step a side is the man
Mr.Biggs half way between Shamrock and Time Square. His chicken is juicy and as hot as you want. He usually works later in the day - after 6:00.
Bourbon Beach. End thread.
No, he's down by the beach. Unless he's moved recently.
I too, have always liked Original Biggs Chicken stand, been eating there for many years. He is by Hidden Paradise and like mentioned opens later.
I would like to try Step a Side, can anyone tell me where he is usually located?
I'm bad with beach locations (we stay cliffside), I'm sure Rob or Lisa know.
Tony used to be beside the No Limit Bar but he recently started cooking at the newer Bar Negril which is across from the Mary Bay dock.
Last time we noticed Step Aside he was near Time Square.
Step Aside
One more vote for Step Aside
A vote for Step Aside from me to. In February of this year he was by Roots Bamboo.
That is the only place i will eat great cook
Well just to throw in something a little different, ozzies on the morass side, not a barrel guy but really good!!
Thank you for recommendations on "Step Aside" and "Mr Biggs". I will definitely try them both.
I often eat and like "Bourbon Beach", "Ossies", and "Best of the West".. They are great. But I also want to try the little carts on side of road.
Thanks for the heads-up, Lisa. We used to frequent Tony (next to No Limit) whenever we stayed at Home Sweet Home. His jerk has a unique flavor that is unlike the other barrels. Great chicken and great vegetable sides. We will have to follow him to his location at this Bar Negril. Sounds promising!
A bit off topic - but does anybody have any favorite jerk barrels in the area of the West End Rd and Sea Star Lane? They aren't as plentiful as they are on the Beach rd, and we usually resort to walking to De Bar. Shark's makes a mean jerk chicken, but it isn't always available. Ally at the Little Sandwich Hut makes a good chicken, as well, but it is best to give him 24 hours notice as it is a special order.
Where is Bar Negril?
Not quite sure where Sea Star Lane is but in the Cliffs, Quality @ Sea Breeze restaurant makes a fine tasking jerk chicken, he has a barrel out front, but I highly recommend his seafood. Chicken Lavish has wonderful chicken too, but more of a full restaurant. I also ate jerk chicken in 3 Dives, also more of a sit down restaurant, and while it tasted great, I guess I got a bad cut and the meat was very sparse. I ordered 1/4 dark chicken and I doubt I had enough meat to make up a drumstick's worth on my plate. That's all I have from personal experience.

Bar Negril is across from Mary Bay dock...near Canoe and German Bar.
MikeD...good description of Tony's chicken...I've always found it delicious but unique...an onion flavour.
I'll always love 3Dives...it's my fav jerk chicken comfort food.
De Bar is the same with their family grannie sauce...great for late night pick up.
Quality has been keeping his chicken barrel/drum going regularly and there's always the gentlemen that open for the Rick's tour buses around the sunset hour.
The Caves bar (Sands at the Caves) has a decent jerk chicken...fairly priced and the most amazing chicken drums around...beautiful artwork. Their hours and chicken are limited to Wed and Sat from 4-7pm.
Another vote for Mr. Biggs. If Biggs takes a day off we use Smokey Joe in front of Grand Pineapple.
On the west end we like De Bar...will have to see how it is with Eddie no longer running the show. 3 Dives is also good (pretty much the same as De Bar). Tony's by No Limit was always good for a late night snack when staying at BCC. We will have to try the new place Tony is cooking at.
Bourbon Beach and Best in West is where I head when I'm down by the beach and want some jerk chicken.
Smokey Joe is near Grand pine apple on the other side of beach road.
Step Aside is next to jungle. Both have good chicken.
Since Tony @ Bar Negril has come up several times, on Fridays he has curry goat and goat soup. I've had his chicken a couple times too, and I like his steamed veg. Raw veg was nice too, it was cut fine.
Thanks for the West End recommendations! Quality's place was definitely on my list to try. Now that I know he has jerk chicken in addition to seafood, I will have to visit twice.
Thanks for the tip about the Caves, Lisa. Didn't know that outside guests were welcome at certain hours. We'll have to try their chicken next trip - however once the wife gets a taste of the Caves, it may be hard to get her to go back to our meager lodgings.
Lola, thanks for the update on Bar Negril. Tony's curry goat will definitely get me there on a Friday.
BEST IN THE WEST..........close to CoCo Lapalm.....YUMMY~~~
I'm a big fan of both Step Aside and Smokey Joe's!
Thank you..
Places on my list to try so far:
1. "Mr Biggs" halfway between Shamrock store and Times Square shopping center
2. "Step Aside" near the Jungle property
3. "Smokey Joe" in front of the Grand Pineapple property
As mentioned in my earlier note, I am already familiar with and like "Best of the West", "Bourbon Beach", and "Ossie's"... But I would like to try some of the truly small spots.
I was originally intending to go to Quality's just for the mahi mahi, and after how awesome it was, with him just whipping it up after I asked for it in a garlic sauce, I told him, "I'm coming back for the lobster". Went back a few days later got the lobster, was equally awesome, and he pulled some pieces of jerk chicken off his grill and gave me a drumstick to taste before I left. :)
Not only is he a great chef, he's a real nice guy to boot!

Not to get too far off topic but we saw a Facebook post last night that seemed to indicate Eddie (from De Bar) opened a restaurant in the Washington DC area. We are still trying to confirm. Can anyone confirm?
No way! if that's so, let me know and I will be there!
I know there are two Jamaican restaurants called "Negril Jamaican Eatery" in the DC area, one on Georgia Ave and one in Silver Spring. I had some great oxtail at the Silver Spring loacation before the Chronixx show back in June.
Take a look at the most recent pictures posted to the De Bar FB page:

Marshall, AKA Stepaside....located beside Montana's bar, which is 100 yds south of the jungle.....to me, the best barrel chicken, always moist and juicy, and never disappointed...
