Checking in from Travellers
This morning's jamaican exchange:
Travellers front desk: welcome to Travellers, here's your wristband so you can get the breakfast that's included with your room
Me: thanks.
Travellers waitress: good morning, here's the breakfast menu.
Me: *confused. Looking at a menu with prices* "miss, I'm sorry, maybe I'm confused, what's the bracelet for if this is all cash price?"
TW: That's a meal plan. It's good for $11 for breakfast."
Me: "oh, got it. Thanks." *looks at menu, selects items to equal $11* "may I have two eggs, bacon and fried dumplings."
TW: the bacon is not included.
Me: ? Okay. I'll have sausage then.
TW: the sausage is not included. The ham is not included.
Me: oh
TW: the fried dumplings are not included.
Me: looking around To see if I'm on a hidden video prank show.
TW: but I can give you fried dumplings this time.
Me: ...
Honestly, instead of saying breakfast is included with the room, just say two eggs and toast is included wth the room. And, by no means am I ungreatful for some calories in the am, just don't need the song and dance. But it does keep it interesting.

Two eggs and toast was six. I suppose I could have ordered some fruit to get to eleven . Although, I didn't ask if that was included.

Re: Checking in from Travellers
Now I know why I kept getting charged for my bacon back in October.

Re: Checking in from Travellers

I didn't ask because the description didn't mention ackee or calaloo. Thought that odd because I've always assumed those two were staples of "Jamaican breakfast"

Re: Checking in from Travellers
Wow, this whole thing gave me a good chuckle.
Regards,
Bob

Re: Checking in from Travellers
If you can't include bacon in an $11 breakfast may I ask what they actually charge for a side of bacon???

Re: Checking in from Travellers
When I was last there (2014? 2015? who can remember?) they had it set up as a buffet breakfast, and I didn't have to wear a bracelet. I HATE wearing those. I remember eggs, ackee and saltfish, calaloo, toast, some fruit, porridge, coffee and tea. I don't remember bacon, sausage, etc being on the buffet.
There was definitely ackee and saltfish, I remember very well because I wasn't paying much attention to what I was shovelling into my mouth, and got what was basically an entire scotch bonnet pepper. Hottest thing I've ever eaten, and since I wasn't expecting it it was one hell of a surprise.

Re: Checking in from Travellers
Crusher, bacon was $3us.
Harry, yeah, was expecting the buffet set up too. I can appreciate that they may be trying to cut down on food waste.
Agree with you on not wanting to wear the bracelet. I cover it up when I leave the property.

Re: Checking in from Travellers
Walk a few feet and go to Beach House Villas. I had their Jamaican breakfast in May for $5.00. It was great. :)

Re: Checking in from Travellers
Several places include breakfast in their rate, no BS scenario like this one to deal with. Country Country is a good example and you can get a room there for just north of $100 on occasion using an OTA. Nicer beach and area as well.....

Re: Checking in from Travellers
Not my intention to sully their name, just sharing a funny story.
I got a great deal on the room, even if there wasn't an egg or two included.

Re: Checking in from Travellers
We are staying at Travellers in April. Probably a stupid question, but out of curiosity, can you forgo the bracelet and just pay cash for what you want to eat? I hate wearing those things, and don't like to advertise where I am staying.

Re: Checking in from Travellers
We just put it around our room key and stuck it in my beach bag...never had to wear it. Just showed it for breakfast.

Re: Checking in from Travellers
Another chapter from adventures in Travellers breakfast...
Leaving Travellers today and headed down to Firefly.
Travellers has a $30us fee imposed for "late" checkouts, past the 11 checkout time. Strange how "island time" works in one direction.
I was not getting hit with that so was up and out by ten. At the front desk, they wanted to cut the breakfast bracelet. I told them I haden't eaten yet. The said today wasn't included. I told them that doesn't make sense. I paid for three nights, should I not get three breakfast? Desk guy looks very puzzled by this logic. So much so that he had to call a manager to ask. The manager gave approval for today's two eggs.
Again, thankful for everything, I'd just rather not have to make a case for things that should be straight forward.

Re: Checking in from Travellers
Traveler's isn't looking well IMO. Was looking into them for the next reach. My 2nd choice was Firefly, let's hear and see how that goes. Big Up Mikey for the report!

Re: Checking in from Travellers
P.s.
Three days and "the towels are not ready as of yet."
lol

Yeah, that kind of cheapness just really rubs me the wrong way. Do people not realize that by doing this kind of thing, you're basically just guaranteeing that repeat business will be limited? Maybe they're booked enough that they just don't care, but the optics are bad either way. Do what you say you're going to do.

Re: Checking in from Travellers
Well its not like these resorts have no competition. Good will translates to cash and a return guest. It only takes a small slight to have a guest look elsewhere the next time. I second the above poster about Country, Country....the free breakfast is top notch...eggs the way you like 'em.

Re: Checking in from Travellers
^^ ahh, And it's busy season. and 3 day's no towel's. Hope Firefly is a better for ya.

Re: Checking in from Travellers
Thanks for all this info! This will be our 10th trip to Jamaica coming up in April, but our first outside of the big AI compounds (for 3 days anyways. Have to get our feet wet somehow).. I like to be prepared so things like this don't cause a major overreaction on my part!!

Re: Checking in from Travellers
Update:
Travellers reached out to me and squared the situation. They've also discussed the topics with the staff. Very good of them to put in the effort to address the issues. Happy to keep Travellers in my rotation of hotels.

Mike thanks for letting everyone know that hotel contracted you and rectified everything. Put them in much better light that they are reading reviews and trying to take action.
