Covid Testing only for some Visitors....
From the Observer:
"Holness said non-nationals visiting Jamaica for tourism will be subject to testing if they are assessed as high-risk either as a result of coming from countries designated as high risk for COVID-19 transmission based on classification by the World Health Organization, or due to other risk factors such as exhibiting symptoms or exposure to people who have tested positive.
Individuals assessed as high risk will have their samples taken at the airport or other designated facility and await their test results at their hotel or resort under the 'stay in zone' measure. If the test is negative, they would remain under the 'stay in zone' measure. However, if the test is positive, they would be isolated either at the hotel/resort or in a government facility as determined by the health authorities.
Those not assessed as high risk will be allowed to go to their hotel/resort under the 'stay in zone' measure. This means they are required for the duration of their stay in Jamaica to remain within the COVID-19 resilient corridor, the prime minister said."
Now it seems we are back to what was originally meant in the 119 page guide... stay tuned for more!

Rob, I was wondering if you might know the answer to this question. What if the person coming in has had the COVID-19 and recovered prior to traveling?
Would the test show them in need of a quarantine? Just wondering. Thanks. Peace and Guidance.

Re: Covid Testing only for some Visitors....
all these changes and requirements confuses and threatens the confidence people and businesses have in Jamaica....
now the PM is saying go to visitjamaica.com and fill out this form or otherwise you won't be allowed entry to Jamaica....
this online application form tells you if you are being allowed or denied entry....
however the earliest you know that is 4 days before you leave for your vacation.....not good
filling out forms.....wearing masks.....being tested....being restricted in your movements.....isn't a vacation
Jamaica needs to keep it simple......otherwise Jamaica is only going to see a trickle of tourist...…
way too many hoops and restrictions for going on vacation and spending $2,000 to $5,000+...….
people will just stay home or go somewhere else on their vacations....

This is not an antibody test, so your test should show negative...

Thanks. What I thought. Peace and Guidance

Re: Covid Testing only for some Visitors....
A trickle of tourists is what the government has wanted all along during this 2 week Phase 1 test period. The borders are open but the island in general is not for visitors, just the "corridor".
As of Wednesday, only about 140 business entities had been certified by TPDCo as COVID Resilient. A business needs that certification to allow tourists to visit their property.
A total of 6000 visitors in 2 weeks for the entire island is less than what Negril gets in one week any week during busy season.
This is a way to test the protocols in a measured manner so as to not overwhelm the system. Holness lost his cool about a week ago when a journalist asked about the "massive influx of tourists on the 15th". He tore off his mask and basically asked the journalist what planet are they living on.
It was a tremendous moment for a live press conference.... LOL

I just want to say "Thank you" for sifting through all the facts, rumors and nonsense to give us the most complete picture of what is currently happening, about to happen and what the government hopes will happen.
It is invaluable for us that don't have the time to do it ourselves.

Re: Covid Testing only for some Visitors....
Would that mean that tourist from the US would pretty much guarantee to be tested?
-
Re: Covid Testing only for some Visitors....
Until the 30th, yes, the US does not have COVID under control yet... same with the UK...

Or possibly Jamaica will establish itself as a place where you can enjoy the beach for a couple of weeks and feel safe. There are a lot of us in high risk categories.

Re: Covid Testing only for some Visitors....
I guess you can spend your time complaining and second-guessing the actions of the Jamaican Government all the while your own country is doing little or nothing to stem the curve.
The Jamaican Government isn't trying to ruin your vacation, they are trying not to let your vacation ruin their lives.
It all comes down to timing. If you can't wait to take your vacation, you have to deal with the consequences of the current world situation regarding this virus. There is no guarantee that November, December and on will be any better but I think you can be sure that the Jamaican Government is going to do whatever is necessary to make it safe to vacation on their soil.
The Jamaican Government is facing a growing tide of tourism where any one or more people may be the "Typhoid Mary" that causes a rampant wave of infection to spread island-wide. Everyone always wants to think they can do a better job until they are put in charge and find out how nearly impossible it is to do it better.

I concur. I think it is being handled perfectly. Up to 14 days are needed for covid-19 to kick in. Jamaica is going to have to work in at least 2 week chunks to figure out if cases are going to spike there. If u can go now, that’s great! But please be ok with respecting their wishes to stay safe! Have a test. Have your temp taken. It’s necessary for Jamaica. You wouldn’t want to make them sick, and you wouldn’t want to vacation somewhere that didn’t take this all very seriously! U could get sick too!
Sorry everyone - I’m from NY and it’s been pretty bad here. My husband and I were actually supposed to be in Negril this week. So far we are resched for Oct.
Regards!

Re: Covid Testing only for some Visitors....
Every time I go to the web site visitjamaica.com and try to go to the page " apply for yours here" the site always freezes. Have tried for the past 2 days with the same result, any other way to actually get to this form they are talking about?
Thanks

I agree thanks Rob. You have been keeping us informed since 1999 when we met. Our first trip in 1995 we were on our own lol.

Here is where the problem could happen and if you have had COVID 19 you should be tested prior to leaving. There have been a few veterans that we have tested 3-4 times at different facilities and they are still showing positive after 30-50 days. Some people shred the disease differently and we are not sure if they will ever show negative as there is so little known. Each of these veterans have also been asymptomatic and where only test prior to a procedure they were supposed to get done.
I would advise if you have had COVID make sure you have had a negative test before going.

Re: Covid Testing only for some Visitors....
This PCR test being administered, is it the one where they stick a swab in your nostril and try to tickle your brain?

Re: Covid Testing only for some Visitors....
I just saw a post video from Negril Tree House on what one of her first guest went through landing in Jamaica today... at least three hours in the airport upon landing, lots of forms to fill out, lots of hand sanitizer, military all over the place with guns , being swabbed in your nostril down your throat from somebody that was getting trained on the spot and that was not professional... she said it was tiring long and hot. That’s a lot to go through wanting to go on vacation

3 hours and 4 hours waits are what yesterday visitors are saying on social media about the Montego Bay airport and glad I went to Antigua instead.

Re: Covid Testing only for some Visitors....
Tried to connect on my 3 lap tops, 2 cell phones and a desk top. every time it freezes in the screen shot you have posted. What next, is it another virus?

Re: Covid Testing only for some Visitors....
Jamaica should really be accepting American Negative Covid19 Certificates for entry like the Bahamas(within 10 days of entry) and Antigua are doing.
It would give peace of mind to older visitors if they can do this ahead of time versus them stressing like the St Ann lady did last Tuesday that had a heart attack in the long immigration line waiting to take the Covid19 test.
It would overall speed up the process at the Jamaica airport and save the cost of doing so many Jamaica Covid19 test.
Sure you can argue a visitor could be infected after the American Covid19 test but studies show that it's slim to no chance in most cases if the traveler avoids no close contacts and closed places after they test.

Re: Covid Testing only for some Visitors....
Hi, have tried 3 laptops, 1 desk top and two cell phones. Once I log in to visitjamaica and try to click on "NO" the screen is frozen total.
Any other way to get this online form that is required to be filled in?
Tks. Ozzy

There is no NO on this screen - I have it linked because it bypasses that question. Please try:

While all of the Negril area is included, it essentially is either side of the road that runs from Negril to Port Antonio. Accompong is currently outside the corridor.
Starting July 1st, the corridor will be expanded - the South Coast needs to open... every two weeks the Phases change. This is only Phase 1. Phase 2 starts the 1st.

Re: Covid Testing only for some Visitors....
Hi Rob, just tried that link as well and same outcome, freezes on screen. Even tried a different browser but same again. Always takes me to the YES or NO screen and comes up as loading but freezes. Not sure what I can do now.
Thanks anyway
Ozzy

Re: Covid Testing only for some Visitors....
I used the link that Rob posted on my desktop and I experienced no issues with freezing.

This link bypasses the yes/no question. I would clear your browser cache and cookies.
Give that a try and let me know what you see when you click on the link I posted.

Re: Covid Testing only for some Visitors....
it's been a week since June 15th when Jamaica opened to tourist in Phase 1...…
shouldn't they be announcing what Phase 2 is going to entail so visitors can plan their visits since July 1st is a week from this Wednesday..…
like visitors that would like to go to Treasure Beach, Black River, Whitehouse, etc...….
and like whether or not masks are to be worn......and where etc...….
and what the curfew hours are going to be or not be...…
and what the airport protocols changes will be as there will be a increase of visitors for the Jamaica government to test and that will cost lots of more dollars....
Cool Runnings, Marko

Re: Covid Testing only for some Visitors....

No....
The south coast reopening has always been part of the Phase 2 starting July 1st, so you already have that answer. There is talk of the guidelines for restaurants to be announced "very soon". Sports Bars reopening looks to be happening soon as well. Jamaica has been getting over 1000 test results per day and have been keeping up with demand for the new visitors.
But I wouldn't expect anything "official" about Phase 2 until the end of the week. The Friday news conferences have been the best sources of info so far.
Since masks are the best way to prevent the airborne spread of COVID, I would not expect much if any change there. That is simply unsound and unsafe. Just as hand washing and sanitizing, don't look for that to change anytime soon. You owe it to your fellow humans.

Re: Covid Testing only for some Visitors....
Exactly the same, freezes before I can select Resident/none Resident, no matter what I try that's as far as I can get with this site. Even other links to bypass this part of the site I get same response from this web page. Non of the links suggested takes me to the page I want and need.
Frustrated beyond believe..

Re: Covid Testing only for some Visitors....
Out of curiousity I tried the link as well. It brings you directly to a page that says "Do you live in Jamaica?". Yes or No. Then it freezes.
-
Re: Covid Testing only for some Visitors....
I tried the link twice. !st time took me to yes or no, 2nd time bypassed yes or no. Did not freeze. Maybe somethings up with the site.

Re: Covid Testing only for some Visitors....
Out of curiosity, if a tourist were to test positive would they still be able to catch their return flight home or they sheltered for 2 weeks?
