This isn’t good for US travelers
Air passengers will be required to get a viral test within three days before their flight to the United States departs, and to provide written documentation of their lab results, or documentation of having recovered from Covid-19, the agency said in a statement to CNN.
CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield is expected to sign the order on Tuesday and it will go into effect on January 26.
If a passenger does not provide documentation of a negative test or recovery, or chooses not to take a test, the airline must not allow the passenger to board, the CDC said.

Just read the site.. International travel might become damn near impossible.

Re: This isn’t good for US travelers
I think it was just made official and test required. I’m looking for details including start date. This came across a news feed. Horrified for what this means for tourism. Rapid test us as we re-enter our own countries and don’t put that burden on countries that can’t possibly handle this.

Re: This isn’t good for US travelers
Very bad news for Jamaica. I will wait and see how this plays out for my February trip but if testing is difficult and expensive to get back to the states, that will mean many cancellations, including mine. I am coming down with my kids shortly and will be coming back right before it kicks in in January. I will not spend the last 3-4 days of my February trip trying to hunt down a place to find a test facility and expensive test ect..way too much stress on my last few days of vacation.

Oh geeze... I was thinking the same thing... The hassle of trying to find a place to test and probably standing in long line to get a test... it’s stressful enough here in NY trying to get a test
I’m planning on visiting in April but now I’m going to wait to see how this plays out

Re: This isn’t good for US travelers
Guess it is a good thing we canceled our annual 10 day trip.
we were to have left this Saturday the 16th and returned on the 26th. We would not have been able to return since effective January 26th.
There will be other trips in the future
Re: This isn’t good for US travelers
This is essentially the US saying they strongly discourage international travel, but if you do decide to travel we are going to present some obstacles for you before you can re-enter the country. If this policy extends into our trip timeline, we will cancel. That is too much to deal with for a trip that is supposed to be relaxing.

This testing will be required for all travelers flying into the United States from anywhere. In order to get on a plane flying to the US after January 26, 2021, you will need a 3 day old or less negative Covid test or an official authorization from your health care providerto travel if you had Covid.
This apparently is for everybody.
Re: This isn’t good for US travelers
Heavy cases? There is no country on Earth with heavier cases than the US.
Re: This isn’t good for US travelers
We are staying ????? at Idle Awhile and I called there and asked about the procedure for getting the Test to return to to the States..... I was told we have to go to Omega Medical and get the test there at $300 U.S. per person....... Gonna have to think twice about going .....

There are around 10 countries on Earth with heavier deaths/1MM people than the USA. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

I agree, sad news for JA. Group of 20+ are all talking about canceling our trip in April again.

There is more news coming including the fast tracking of the Jamaica Cares Travel Insurance by February 1st. Give it a few more days to find out what is really happening. April is a long ways off...
Re: This isn’t good for US travelers
Hope good news comes soon as there are 16 of us scheduled to arrive on Jan 30th......and most are looking to cancel soon......
Re: This isn’t good for US travelers
The rapid Antigen tests will be available before the 26th and you should be able to have it done at the resort. Cost is minimal, under J$10,000 and possibly free with results back in less than an hour - most likely 15 minutes.
Should have final details by Monday.

From another thread I started today:
Jamaica is making it possible for most major hotels to have on site testing for their visitors!
Six labs have been certified to carry out the testing. Here is the link from the Observer:

More news will be coming this weekend and into Monday so stay tuned!
Re: This isn’t good for US travelers
Keeping our fingers crossed that the re-test to get home goes away. We are sitting tight for a bit to see how this places out.
Re: This isn’t good for US travelers
Sunfun and I are flying out Jan 27. The forecast for northern Wisc is a high of 15 and a low of 6 degrees. It’s a no brainer for us. We’ll deal with what ever happens and call it another Negril experience. Soon come !!!
