Hi y'all! I'll be going to Negril for the first time in Sept. and really would love to hear about some of your favorite day trip suggestions! I will be in Negril for 2 weeks, so hoping to be able to check out a few fun places.
I recently watched one of the webcasts, and this message board was highly recommended to me, so thanks for any ideas you can offer me!

Welcome to the board. I would recommend YS Falls with a side trip to Pelican bar. Take in the sunset as you are coming back on a boat from Pelican bar. It was one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen. Go with a private driver and not with a tour group so you can dictate the flow of your day and how long you stay at a place. Have fun!!

We really enjoyed the Appleton Rum Factory Tour and its all you can drink rum after the tour too :)

However, I am REALLY looking forward to the Rockland Bird Sanctuary which I have yet to visit
I had a wonderful time horsebackriding on my first trip. Also did Black River/YS Falls. This was in addition to a snorkeling trip out on a glass bottom boat. All were fun, but I could have skipped Black River (simply because it was nothing new to me).
On my second trip I was also with Booger amongst others for the YS Falls/Pelican Bar trip and it was out of this world fun, he is not exagerrating.
I know there is so much to do and so little time....i'm just sharing my own experience. :)

be mindful of sand gravity ...the best "day trip " intentions have been thwarted by sand gravity ..
I recommend Abeokuta Paradise Nature Park http://facebook.com/Abeokutajamaica and another favourite is a drive to Bluefields, Belmont and St Elizabeth for peppered shrimp, fried fish and bammy.
I like to take newbies to Rockland Bird sanctuary so they can have a Doctorbird (Jamaica's national bird) sit on their finger and drink nectar from a bottle. Then a river raft ride down the Great River. You don't have to get up too early and will get back before sunset, easily.
Don't plan too much -- you won't do half of it ;)

If you want to hang out at at a locals place Percy's Retreat is a great place. His family is really nice and his wife cooks up some good food. I have a school up in the hills i have set up donations . Please leave me your email and I can give you the info. These kids do not get much of the tourist dollars and def will melt your heart...you can bring simple things such as pencils and paper.
I am very interested in the school in the hills,how many kids? What do they need most?
