The new ambulance at the Negril Fire Station is now...
The new ambulance at the Negril Fire Station is now operational! It has completed all of its certifications and licensing requirements and has already been servicing the local community. This is a great addition to the private ambulance that has been Negril's only ambulance option of late.
The new ambulance is fully equipped with certified EMTs and can be reached by calling either 119, or 112 and the newly added 911 emergency phone numbers! Here is a pic taken today at the Negril Fire Station.

We would like to thank those involved in making this happen including folks such as Cliff Reynolds and Daniel Grizzle from the Negril Resort Board, Damian Salmon of the Negril Chamber and Winston Wellington who is spearheading the Negril International Hospital project. A big up to everyone involved!

Re: The new ambulance at the Negril Fire Station is now...
This is fantastic news! I must admit, it was always a little worry in the back of my mind that they didn't have this available. My guy is terribly accident prone :)
Re: The new ambulance at the Negril Fire Station is now...
This is good news! My daughter is there now with friends and loves jumping off the cliffs (into the sea), so I can sleep a little better now. Bless all who made this happen.

Well this is excellent news !!! i;m curious, who is funding and overseeing the management of the ambulance? I know for a fact that in the past it was either at times non-functioning, as well as been ill-equipped along with personnel who didnt even know how to use the defibrillator .And if one has a medical emergency in Negril what is the closest hospital they will be taken too and what level of services do they offer ? I know that Jam is a developing country and will not have anywhere near the same level of care as in the states but as a travel forum I feel people have the right to know the basic facts.. That being said, ALWAYS purchase travel insurance in case to you need to be medevac to Miami,etc..its not $$ and so worth it.. Again, great news but would like to have some of the above questions answered..
Re: The new ambulance at the Negril Fire Station is now...
Suzan,
If you look at the picture I posted, the plates on the ambulance are Government plates - the Jamaican government. They are funding and overseeing the management as this is a public, government operated ambulance. The trained and certified EMTs are just that, trained and certified.
As for the hospital to be taken to, that would depend on the extent of the emergency as common sense would dictate. The level of service will be dependent on the particular facility that one is taken to...
