" Yes Man, RESPECT" is my reply. I do not say YA MON. I just sound so fake when I talk like that. But I LOVE to hear Jamaicans say it~~
Jim Donna I totally agree I hear people use the ya mon and It really sounds fake. I think just saying respect back is the perfect response.
I usually just bump fist(s) back and say thank you...and sometimes ask them how their day is going.
Personally...I love hearing visitors say "ya mon".
Generally when they're saying "ya mon"...it's in a context of such happiness & excitement...which makes me happy that they're enjoying themselves! :)
Right on, Bnewb!
It was pointed out to me recently at work that I hardly ever say yes, I say ya mon. I didn't even realize it.
When it comes to respect, if it is sincerely given I return it in kind.
Bless...
Ed
"and to you Mon!"...is my normal reply
Thanks, as Ras said, if I felt it was sincere I was thinking maybe a thanks and same to you or something.
respond with a "bless up" and you'll be fine
I usually shock them with my proper reply, "Thank you very much, I respect you also". Sometimes I'm asked to repeat myself, and I always get a smile :)
Respect!
Yeah man.........saying it as if it was one word and not two makes it sound a likkle more natural. Just an opinion.......Respect!
"Yes, mon. Respect to YOU."
I say Ya mon at least 100 times per day and quite enjoy it .... I especially love the way Bentley says Ya mon three times in row in quick succession: "Ya mon-ya mon-ya mon" ....
