Silly question, but...do you need to refrigerate rum cream?
I visited Negril for the first time this past December and will be there again this December for 10 days. I fell in love with rum cream and had it every morning in my coffee (magnificent way to start the morning while watching the waves roll in!). I don't recall refrigerating my rum cream and now I'm wondering if I should had. It didn't kill me, obviously, but I'd like to make sure and get it right this time! I'm giddy about going back and love doing it solo. It's nice to have sand gravity be my guide and just roll with the waves. Soon come. :)

Yes you should put it in the fridge.

Re: Silly question, but...do you need to refrigerate rum cream?
Just checked my bottle (in the fridge). I thought it said to refrigerate, but it says on the label "store in a cool place, contains milk products"...pretty much the same thing, particularly in Jamaica where the fridge would be the only cool place!

Re: Silly question, but...do you need to refrigerate rum cream?
Thanks to all for the info. Guess I got lucky last year and didn't get sick. I shall keep it nice and chilled this time around! I'll be bringing a bottle home this time, but think I'll only bring it out on weekends. Actually, come to think of it, it would be a nice start to a workday, wouldn't it? I guess that's probably not a good habit to begin... :)

I have a very "cool" place to store my Sangsters about which no one else knows. It never goes bad!

Re: Silly question, but...do you need to refrigerate rum cream?
The KEY word in this question is CREAM. This means there is milk products and should be refridgerated after opening. Just as you would bailieys or any other cream products. If it makes you feel better I am serv-safe certified.

Re: Silly question, but...do you need to refrigerate rum cream?
Ive consumed rum cream months after opening with no refrigeration. The alcohol preserves it.

Never refridgerate it, never had a problem?

Re: Silly question, but...do you need to refrigerate rum cream?
Consuming within 6 months has never been a problem :) I always refrigerate it, but I like it cold...

Re: Silly question, but...do you need to refrigerate rum cream?
Thanks for all the responses! 6 months?? I'd be lucky if it lasted for 6 weeks! Or, if I'm in Negril, about 6 days. I'm getting a hankerin' for some rum cream now since we've been "talking" about it. Three months is going to go by so....so....slow. Thank God for this forum and trip reports that help pass the time. You Negril-ites are awesome!

Re: Silly question, but...do you need to refrigerate rum cream?
I've never refrigerated it. I store it in the liquor cabinet, and only bring it out on special occasions. They dont refrigerate it in Jamaica. It stays on a warm beach bar all day, every day. I know it says on the label that you should, but, I've never had a problem. If I kept it in the refrigerator, I'd have to drink it to make room for ketchup and such. It wouldnt last a week. I try to make 2 bottles last from trip to trip.

Re: Silly question, but...do you need to refrigerate rum cream?
Thank you! This thread prompted an old brain cell to fire up and I remembered the little bottle I had stashed away from our last trip! Going to have a nice coffee drinking weekend! :)

Hey, JaJodi! I see you're an Austinite! We know our business when it comes to awesome vacations, don't we? :)
I'm so jealous that you'll be drinking rum cream this weekend. I have to wait until December (unless I order online, thanks Rambo!). It looks like we're two ships passing in the night in December by your ticker. Soon come! But definitely not soon enough...

Re: Silly question, but...do you need to refrigerate rum cream?
Seems to be a 50/50 split on whether to refrigerate or not. I would just do the Canadian thing, and finish the bottle and not worry about it going bad! Drive to Cornwall to get it! Worth the hour hurdle through construction! BTW, try the Wray and Nephew Rum Cream. I prefer it to Sangster. I love Sanster's, but W&N is smooooooth.
