Trust me... Females ONLY! Trust me...
Again I'm going to warn you if you are male you won't want to know or read the thread....
Sooo... Because this is my first time going for 2 weeks I was wonering (JUST IN CASE) how some of you deal with ...Your Aunt Flow...or Shark Week as some would put it... this just hit me as a possibility... I can imagine that its not the easiest thing to deal with while traveling especially if you get bad pains... so do you recommend bringing your own products or buying there... and of course any other advice dealing with the subject would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Trust me... Females ONLY! Trust me...
OK, not a female, but have travelled with them when the Red Army shows up, almost every trip it seems like? Anyway those womens products are usually packed and brought with. Although with all my grocery trip experience seems to me they have all that stuff there!

Re: Trust me... Females ONLY! Trust me...
Bring your own products!! Trust me!! Finding tampons in Negril, is a headache...pads, are plentiful but most are behind the counter. At valumaster,as you enter, there is a counter and you just tell the cashier or whomever is working there what you want. I searched pharmacies in Negril but I realize they dont carry alot of products. Another idea is to stop somewhere in Mobay.

Re: Trust me... Females ONLY! Trust me...
LMAO...first response is from Poolguy!
If you use a specific product...bring it!
If you're more flexible with your choices...there's a fair variety of products here to select from....
In all the main grocery stores here in Negril...they have an aisle full of pad choices...HiLo, Value Master, Quality Trader.
Tampons can be found behind the counters at the pharmacies & Quality Trader (just ask)....or tampons are found in the aisles at HiLo & Value Master.

Re: Trust me... Females ONLY! Trust me...
Well bring your own products that you know work for you. As for pain bring something that works for you too. Or if you are on the pill just keep taking them.
-
Re: Trust me... Females ONLY! Trust me...
That's funny your first response a guy...Go Poolguy lmao!
Anywho just like the others says I bring my own products too don't have time searching for stuff when Aunt Flo visits she can be very demanding as I'm sure you kno ...so I'm well prepared from all angles although it only happened once hope it neva happens again..
I also googled deterring it nothn worked..lol

Re: Trust me... Females ONLY! Trust me...
Continue taking the pill is exactly what my advice would be if at all possible! And it agree take them with you...much more comfortable with what you're used too. Good luck!
-
Re: Trust me... Females ONLY! Trust me...
bring everything you could possibly need, you don't want to try out new products on vacation.
if you're on the pill here's some useful info on skipping your period.

Re: Trust me... Females ONLY! Trust me...
Although I was able to find what I needed (tampons and pads) at HiLo in the aisle, I would still bring my own products. I have also found that "Polly" is a lot nicer to me when on vacation.....I think it has to do with the heat but who knows.

Re: Trust me... Females ONLY! Trust me...
I do know that 2 big boxes of napkins I was donating, got me through customs real quick! Inspector opened suitcase saw boxes, and slammed it shut. Inspection over! Bring your own.

Re: Trust me... Females ONLY! Trust me...
Ok I'll bite, I'm the second guy that is chiming in but as a husband that has been sent "to the store" many times over the years in remote islands and third world locations you might want to research a product called the Diva Cup. That's all I'm gonna say. I'm so glad my wife doesn't read this board or she would kill me!!!

Well this is the last thing I expected to learn about on this board. I googled it. I'm now up to speed. As long as they don't discontinue my product of choice, I believe I'll stick with it. If they one day do, I may be desparate enough to try this. And I'm guessing I'll either wonder why I waited so long or be scarred for life based on the reviews I've read. Haha Very interesting Tanfastic. Thanks for sharing! I don't think your wife would kill you at all. :)
And as for the original intent of this thread, one of my two weeks was shark week. I'm with everyone else - if there's any likelihood, bring your own just to make life simple. But if it sneaks up on you, every store I went to had them, so I don't think you'll have to worry.

Re: Trust me... Females ONLY! Trust me...
My Aunt seems to like Negril almost as much as I do - she always seems to find a way to come along. I would suggest bringing what you need, if only so you don't have the hassle of sourcing new products to contend with. I will say that that in Negril, my Aunt seems to be pretty irie. On the island what is often a pretty miserable, crampy few days becomes a pretty mellow and almost painless non-event. I figure it is the combo of my extremely relaxed attitude and the warm Jamaican air.
Not to get really TMI, I do find my preference skews strongly towards tampons in the heat and humidity. I didn't bring the right ratio of product along the first time around.

Re: Trust me... Females ONLY! Trust me...
Oh wow, never woulda thought about that issue as I haven't done that in about 9 years......but I imagine I would be planning my dates as far from my shark week as possible lol....haven't you seen the commercial?!? ;)
LOL @ Poolguy

You'd think, right? I'm a modern girl - these days there is an app for just this kind of thing. Six months ago when we were picking dates for Negril, it looked just about perfect...I probably won't let you know how it turns out...but it isn't looking good!

Re: Trust me... Females ONLY! Trust me...
I always hate it that they put the tampons in the locked case and made me ask for them. I'm not comfortable w/ a male clerk asking me what size I need :) Just bring what you need ... they don't take up much space. And there were many times I was in the water w/ shark while on my cycle..... never been attacked. Some of the research suggests that kind of body fluid is not appetizing to shark

OMFG LOL LOL
I have to chime in here. A man that recommends the Diva Cup. We have discussed this product at our book club and not a single woman could help from gagging. This would be helpful in third world countries for folks to poor to buy product but here in the states we have products available that absorb the flow not that we stick our hands in and take a cup in or out of our bodies to empty and wash. I encourage everyone to read up on that bugger but do not have a weak stomach.
For a man this would be like sticking a dixie cup up your ars and removing it and emptying and cleaning it out and sticking it back in.
If you truly do not want to have your flow while on vacation talk to your Dr. about 6 weeks ahead of time there are a variety of ways to avoid it.

Re: Trust me... Females ONLY! Trust me...
whew! happy to be menopausal lol

Re: Trust me... Females ONLY! Trust me...
I saw a 12 pack of diva cups at walmart. But you dont reuse them, just throw them away and put in another. Plus when you get in water, your flow may be lighter or almost nonexistent.

Didn't mean to ruin it for you tanfastic. And sorry Kaycee only going by all the info online on the Diva cup website , we had twelve of us diving deeply into all words and descriptions. I'm sure it works for some people or the company wouldn't still be in business.
I was a competition swimmer and Diver on a team of 20+ women for 10 years there are many many pills and even a shot and it will do your body no harm what so ever and many many people do this for a water vacation. My daughters swim and dive and they have always just worn tampons with no issue and they pack those when we travel.

Re: Trust me... Females ONLY! Trust me...
No problem at all ShellyK!:)
Whats the name of the shot youre referring to?

The Depo is the shot we used in competition days and I know many on my daughters teams use. Also have friends in the last couple years that had water vacations and a honeymoon and did same thing. Got it one month before trip. There are also others now. getting on the pill of any kind two months before and skipping your placebos will also do this but you would want to be on month 2 many competitive swimmers now do that.

Re: Trust me... Females ONLY! Trust me...
I am so very thankful that I no longer have this to worry about, due to surgery!
