If I hit the island on Sun. can I get a new sim card for my local phone? Heading to Treasure Beach and unsure of availability there. thanks dave
with a Sunday arrival,
getting a sim-card *could-be* tricky
[[[ KEEP in mind, that i haven't been on-island in over 2-years ... so, my *feed-back* might-be TOTALLY wrong, but based on pass-trips/experiences ___ ____ ___ ____ ]]]
Digicell offices closed on Sundays
in the past,
i remember seeing a Digicell kiosk AT the airport (somewhere) .... i would check there (if still there).
WARNING...!!!.. --- DO NOT leave the airport, thru the main Arrival-doors, without FIRST checking/looking-around for a Digicell rep/kiosk ... once outside those doors, you'll NOT get back in.
IF you're using a private-driver to TreasureBeach, tell 'em your sim-card-issue ---- they'll more than likely be able to assist to resolve.
If no Digicell-rep @ airport,
mi-*think* you're a duck-out-of-luck
until Monday morn (business hours)
an aside:::>> Once upon a time,
pon arrival,
i had an issue with my *local* phone, which i was tote-ing TO the island
Stopped at a Digicell booth/stand/kiosk INSIDE the airport, on the way from plane to baggage claim ---- got *issue* resolved
There isn't a digicel kiosk at the airport anymore. I'm sure a private driver will pick one up for you in advance. Friends are having their driver do that in December.
Or just spent one nite in Mobay down-town, and buy it on Mondays! L.O.L.
mi would tell the driver to pick one up for you......Digicels sims are like around $500J's......
Sundays are a great travel day to head home but not to arrive as a lot of places are closed......
Cambio's included.......which can be a bummer......and the airport Cambio is a no go due to the poor rates
Cool Runnings, Marko
Would it be possible for you to reactivate your old sim on line? This is what I did through Digicel Jamaica. Called the phone number there for Customer Service to make sure I had an account.
Is $30 for 4 days for cellphone a good price? Thats what I was quoted.
ummmmmmmmmmmmm
the other week,
while chattin' (long-distance phone call) with my Ja-mentor
to check-on my defectiveleft-behind Ja-cell phone
which i've had for a few YEARS(.!!.)
she told me:::>>> "..a NEW cellie would cost between Ja$2,000 & $3,000.."
that's US $20-$30 (approximately)
so, _____ _____ ____ _____ ____
lol
lol
lol
no no nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...!!!...
don't *look* at it as '..gettin' ova on you..'
it's merely *biz-ness*
always 'bout the biz-ne$$
just remember::::>>> there're ALL-ways *options* ---- their-offer was an 'option' ...... take it or leave it
jus' you wait 'til you go-visit St.James Street
lol
lol
lol
report-back to us on the board, please,
giving us the price-differences
in the options pon St.James vs. those on the HipStrip
lol
lol
lol
a simple thing like a single-CravenA or Matterhorn can vary in price::::
...one price on HipStripall-ways option$
...likkle less on St.James from a sidewalk vendor
...likkle less at one of the China-man stores
...and another price at one of the booths/vendors in the bus-park
If you plan on returning do yourself a big favor and buy a phone. Or if you can unlock your own phone you can simply pickup a local sim and pop it in. Your phone might already be unlocked, if it is an IPhone it already is. Just don't go flashing the IPhone around if you do indeed have one.
As someone who works in the cell phone industry in the USA, I can say with 100% certainty that iPhones are not already unlocked unless you purchased it directly from the Apple store. If you bought it from one of the wireless carriers (AT&T, etc) it will be locked to them unless you have it unlocked. Rule of thumb is, if you received it at any sort of discount (meaning you paid less than $500 for it) you will need to unlock it for international use.
Booger, I took your advice in the past and unlocked an old Blackberry that I had lying around the house. I got on the at&t support chat on their website, and they walked me through the unlocking process. It took a little work but it was relatively painless. Then, when we arrived in Negril I stopped at the Digicel store and picked up a sim card and 1000 (international) minutes for about $20. The nice lady at the store installed it for me and made sure everything was working. No problem! Worked like a charm.
However, once we arrived home we kept getting calls and texts from a Jamaican woman. Now, my wife is suspicious about all those trips I made to DJ's Market. I told that her that if the texts were really intended for me they wouldn't be written in patois.
