Have they come to a consensus on this project yet?

Apparently the suspension ended just a few days after that October 11th article was written. Worked stopped for about 5 days, and has since started back up with more sidewalk being constructed.
This all happened well before the Heroes Day holiday on October 21st....
So how far are they now Rob?
I will check today.... heading up the beach road later...
Thanks Rob
Hey Rob did you check out the sidewalks yesterday?
They are finishing the entire stretch up to the Grand Pineapple - the few areas that were yet to be completed (in front of Yoga Center and Time Square) are being finished and two areas are being re-done (jack hammered) to replace or repair something - I couldnt tell which.
Interestingly, they are adding curbs at each of the driveway entrances, and when the driveways are close enough together, those areas in between the driveways are being turned into small garden areas. I guess this is part of the beautification of the sidewalk that had been discussed.
Other small changes have been made, but nothing majorly significant to the eye as of yet...
Thanks for the update Rob
Lady Jane,
I will keep you updated. The progress on the sidewalk has been happening rather quickly - the stretch up to Coco has much less obstacles in the way, so they may be able to complete this section - stay tuned for more updates.
Can you post some photo's of how it all looks?
I posted one back in July for our Negril Today page:
http://www.negril.com/nt/nt071713.htm
It looks just like a sidewalk... (grin)
I'm sure it looks a little different than the first photo...
That is the only photo I have posted so far... maybe you are thinking of the median photo that was featured on the Negril Today page prior, or maybe confusing it with some one else's photo.
It looks just like sidewalk.... there is really nothing unusual about it... so far.... :)
Quick Question:::>>> Yes or No::::: are they mixing the cement '..by-hand..' ...???..
i.e., bags of cement + water + a bunch-o'-rocks/pebbles/stones + water [[[ WITHOUT machines ]]]
one-more question(s)::>> the sidewalk build-ing crew
would i be correct if i say:::>>>> the *crew* consists of 2-3 boss-types, with white hard-hats,
with 4-6 men (maybe 2-3 women) doing the actual-work.
... ??? ...
Now that, Smith, sounds like the good ole USA
Backhoes to clear the path of the sidewalk, road rollers to smooth the rock/stone/pebble base surfaces, pre-manufactured re-bar to cover the base, cement trucks bringing and pouring the concrete, several workers to rough and detail the surface....
The sidewalk is large enough for all the equipment to fit comfortably on it - about 12 feet wide. It is pretty much exactly what you think you will see when any major sidewalk project is being built anywhere...
Of course in the areas that have recently been jackhammered to redo or repair something and the curbs that are being added, a worker or two will be handling that in a much smaller fashion with the wheel barrow and trowel as needed. But I do believe your description does sound more like the USA road work image...
Cars and Bikes are still parking on pedestrian sidewalk
The parking situation is going to interesting to say the least, there are many places that simply do not have the parking lot space and this will need to be addressed one way or another.
But I do know that the police are warning the current repeat offenders and requesting that they move their vehicles and motorcycles off the sidewalk. I do not know of anyone who has received a ticket, but all those who I know have been warned are no longer parking on the sidewalk.
The small bike rental across from NBCC had placed their bikes literally ON the sidewalk as a display, and has recently moved them back off the sidewalk at the request of the police. Likewise, the drivers who operate across from Sunset on the Beach had been parking on the sidewalk, but now all are parking safely off the sidewalk, once again at the request of the police.
As the sidewalk nears completion, I am sure that most everyone will have been warned and repeat offenders will begin receiving tickets for their non-compliance. Those will be rather easy tickets to write up...
