                            Rastafari Rootzfest Jamaica Ganja Cup!
                             August 21st - 31st, 2016
There is much news arbout the upcoming "Ganja Fest" happening this year! This past year, with the support of the US based High Times Magazine, High Times held their famous "World Cannabis Cup" in Negril. But with the changing times and pending legalization of the herb on the island, Elder Ras Iyah V (shown above) of the local based group, Rastafari In Inity will be taking full control of the 2016 staging of the Jamaican annual Ganja festival. It has been renamed as the Rastafari Rootzfest Jamaica Ganja Cup, which will be staged from December 9th to the 11th in Negril. As Ras Iyah V has stated, "We are grateful for the role High Times played last year, but with the door now opening for a local ganja industry, we need to look at ways to sensitize and educate our people to get ready. Our focus is geared towards unlocking economic opportunities for social and economic empowerment of Rastafari and other indigenous and grass-roots peoples. We want to bring greater awareness of the importance of ganja and other sacramental and medicinal herbs to Rastafari and other indigenous communities. We want to use the Rastafari Rootzfest to promote understanding of the Rastafari traditional use of marijuana as the ultimate balance between the spiritual and material advancement of humanity."
As Negril.com has been mentioned in the past in High Times, we would like to extend a "big up" for their assistance in the launch of this locally hosted event that is sure to draw people from all over the world. This promises to be the real start of the sacramental, medicinal and recreational use of this natural plant to bring benefits to all of the island. And to High Times personally, your assistance for decades has helped to bring this event to become a reality. Thank you! For those not into the herb, remember there are always great things to do in Negril - and to get you around safe and secure, be sure to check out all the legal taxi and tour operators in our Transportation section!
