    Travellers checks

I recall recently reading that FX does not exchange these anymore? Any banks doing these still. I know its a bit dated way of travelling but its the cheapest for us.....bank charges way too much in fees. I am not paying seven dollars for every transaction with my ATM card

I don't know about FX but never had any problems at all with Travelers Checks as long as one has ID. I with you, it may be old school but I still plan to have them when I travel. Better safe than sorry!

I never usually bring them - but was considering this year. I can't even find them!! None of our banks or AAA carry them anymore. Using the debit machine sounds quite expensive but I guess not many choices.

Had problems with them last April, outside Boubon Beach would not cash but down town ok, our AAA still lists them on their site but have not called yet.

    Time to upgrade your bank.....

Does your hotel room come with a safe? If so, take cash and just hit the cambio when you need JMD. BofA used to allow Scotia transactions with no fees, unfortunately that is no longer the case. I'm getting ready to fire them as this was the only reason I still banked with them. Too many options out there to deal with banks like this. Many banks refund any sort of fees assessed, so take a look around. If you happen to be a veteran look at USAA......

that's great news Boogzy! i just sent Joyce an email today asking about her.

for me the $2 is worth the price of avoiding a trip to town.

    Re: Travellers checks

I can still get American Express traveler's checks from Triple A. A lot of people say they are antiquated, but it's the easiest way for me to roll. If the hotels I stayed at didn't accept them, I wouldn't use them, but it sure beats standing in line at the cash machine or finding that the cash machine is out of order. Not to mention if they get lost, they are easily replaced, unlike cash. They come in several demoninations and I usually take several hundreds and fifties and cash them as I need to. Very convenient!
