I heard west end - villa la cage road - and this summer there does seem to have been an increase in murders in this area, unless they have been happening all along in the west end and just not been reported...

As with any such incidents, the first "information" may not be the most clear or entirely accurate. "Inaccurate, vague" count assertion as well as odd and impossible comments about hiding the truth in the year 2014 with near everyone having access to read and broadcast news instantly does seem to verge on tabloid activity rather than actual beneficial information for visitors to Negril.

These incidents happened to real people, with real families who are now grieving for their loved ones. A little compassion and understanding can go a long way, especially when the raw feelings are in their first day or two. Our thoughts and prayers go out to their family and friends.

28-year-old James Sorrell lived in Falmouth which is considered the western side of the island although it is on the north coast of Jamaica. Falmouth is located about 2 hours from Negril, about 30 minutes past Montego Bay, on the road toward Ocho Rios.

Police report that Sorrell was sitting having drinks with friends in Falmouth when an armed man approached from behind and opened fire.

The incident that happened in Negril occurred on Villa La Cage Road. Junior Salmon, 25, of Jericho, Hanover, nickname of Demon, had moved from Jericho, which is inland between Lucea and Sandy Bay to the residence in Negril.

Police report that Salmon was at home when two men entered the premises. Salmon and the men became embroiled in a dispute when the men pulled firearms. He tried to escape by running, but was chased by the men and they shot him.

He died on the spot. The attackers then escaped on Salmon’s motorbike.

Returned last night from a 2 week stay on the West End, we literally walked everywhere and any where we wanted at any time we chose to with NO PROBLEMS what so ever from anyone.

Early, late, dark, light nothing, not one single issue, nothing but a good time was had every where we stopped. Good vibes every where. No safety concerns at all other than good ol common sense.

Thats the only real westend we saw.

Thanks once again Rob for presenting the facts. Our thoughts and prayers to the families involved as well as the troubled souls that committed these crimes.

Rob - Thanks for presenting the details as currently known. While this does not mitigate the tragedies, or the pain being experienced by the families, it does (or should) alleviate a lot of the judgment and fear that can be evoked by a statement such as "why so many murders?".

    Much appreciated....

People are getting shot and killed rather frequently as of late. Not sure how the title of the thread is off base.

There is nothing wrong with sharing information (good and/or bad), about Negril and Jamaica, but if a poster chooses to make a post, especially about such a serious issue as gun crime and murder in "westend" shouldn't that person at least give some information for the basis of their post? "Count is up to around 10" ??? What timeframe is that, what defines "westend" geographically, is that anywhere close to being an accurate statement, or is it based on some knowledge the poster probably should have shared?
Gun crime and murder have plagued Jamaica, (and many other parts of the world) for many years. People should be aware of that fact. It troubles me that posts regarding such a devastating problem are made with about as much thought as somebody starting a thread and asking where they can find some good jerk chicken. Sadly, many families and friends are left behind, suffering the loss of a loved one, and I wonder what they might think of the sometimes casual, and almost flippant way some members of this board discuss such issues.
Empathy is a very good quality that we should all put in to practice.

Agree, but there usually is no problem until there is a problem.
