Staying at Mirage on the cliffs...

...and was wondering what restaurants are in the area, a 10 minute walk at the most. We normally eat at places like Chicken Lavish, Choices (now Pressa's One Love), Pablos, 3 Dives and PeeWee's. Not looking for high end places, just normal mom and pop places to eat. The Negril map isn't to scale, so it is hard to tell.

Mirage is in a great location for local eating.

-Directly across the street and to the left is "Jamaican-Style Bar and Restaurant". When we were there in June the restaurant was closed, but they should be gearing up for the busy season. Rohan is a great cook and adds a side of pasta and veggies to any traditional Jamaican meal.

-Ali's Little Sandwich (Mushroom) Hut is a few steps north of there, across from Negril Escape. I usually stop by Ali's for fresh-squeezed juices to go. Ali is also a great cook and can prepare any meal with a few hours notice and will deliver it to your hotel. His homemade patties are awesome, but will require a days notice. As the name implies, I understand that he can also prepare a mean mushroom tea, but I never tried it.

-Turning right out of Mirage, you first come to Ras Rody's Ital stand. The good Rasta needs no introduction.

-A few steps south of Ras Rody's is Shark's. Shark's is our go-to place for dinner when we first arrive in Negril. Similar vibe to Pressa's, his pan-fried snapper is a must and fresh juices are always good.

-Going further south towards Rick's, I would recommend Mango Tree Restaurant (which I believe is in front of T-Birds). A traditional local cook-shop, with local prices. Lorraine (the housekeeper at Mirage) turned us on to the place.

For a more higher-end experience, I would recommend Hungry Lion, which is a 5-10 minute walk north of Mirage. Erica's is just a few minutes north of there. Of course, you are directly next door to Negril Escape, Tensing Pen and Catcha Falling Star; all of which have restaurants. Negril Escape's menu is somewhat limited.

I think you will enjoy Mirage. Quiet, chill environment and the rooms are first rate. The complimentary breakfast is good and just enough to tide you over until lunchtime, if you want to sample all the great food that is around.

Sharks, Ras Rodys, Ahhbees, Seastar...all are across the road or within a short walk up a lane...

Thanks for the great information. We are likely to try most of the places on the list. Is Sips and Bites close by?

It's walkable, but not really in the same neighborhood as Mirage. Sips is north of Hungry Lion, maybe a 20 minute walk from Mirage.

The pan fried snapper at Shark's was awesome.
