Negril Chamber outraged over sand mining operations

The Negril Chamber of Commerce is today expressing outrage at what appears to be shady sand mining activities connected to major hotel developments in Negril and elsewhere on the North Coast.

“It was brought to our attention by multiple persons that sand is being mined in the Negril area and moved by several trucks in the dead of night to a major hotel development in recent days. We are further told that the sand is stockpiled at the development in question for movement to another property on the north coast”, said the Negril Chamber of Commerce in a statement today.

I hate those places so much. Pure and simple greed. What would have to happen for them to get in serious trouble, and/or get shut down?
And where in Negril area are they mining sand?

I would imagine they're dredging, as someone else mentioned. Hopefully far away from any reefs, but who knows.

Please refrain from speculation and rumor. All this does is harm potentially innocent properties and their reputations. It serves no useful purpose whatsoever....

Yes, of course the Jamaican new agencies "ran" this story just as we "ran" this thread that covers the story. The original post is there for all to see and click on the link. But that has nothing to do about the post I made asking people not to speculate.

None of the news services speculated on which property was involved. None. They stated the facts and did not begin or allow speculation as to which property the Chamber was complaining about with "sand mining". News agencies know that speculation of this kind can harm innocent parties and it serves no practical purpose at all. This is not odd behaviour, but responsible behaviour.

The posts removed were speculating on which property was involved, and the speculation/guess made in the posts were incorrect, which can do nothing but harm the innocent property falsely being named.
