    First time visit

    Hello all!
This July will be my first time visiting Negril, Jamaica and i was trying to get some information on activities to do and places to eat. I will be staying for a week. I am not trying to stay in the hotel the whole time so all suggestions are welcome.

Video (unfortunately a low quality video...the sea and sand are much more beautiful colour ) above gives you a general idea...but many places look different and a few no longer exist...quite a few missing also.

That video would have been so much better if there would have been more of her and less of him.

while I found the beach a bit slower in late June, there was always live music, tours, bars and restaurants, and fun to be had. July will be similar. It was hot, so I took more taxis than I usually do in April, so perhaps budget a little more for transportation, even if you don't think you'll need it. Also, I really wish I had brought an umbrella for those summer, mid-afternoon downpours- something I had never bothered to bring for April trips. Because there are less tourists in town in the summer, I noticed an increase in the frequency and enthusiasm of those selling items in their shops and kiosks, and by those walking the beach. I really enjoy the One Love Bus tour, even if you aren't a big drinker, it's a nice way to tour the west end. I love the live music around the beach at night, and several afternoons. I am sure to take a taxi any time after sun set, which, even in the summer, is between 6:30-7 pm.

    Enjoy your first visit!

Thanks so much, I'll make sure to bring an umbrella. Are taxis expensive there? I've been doing some research on the One Love Bus tour, I'm going to check it out.

I like to use the route taxi during the day, the routes are between $150-210 j depending on which route you are on. You can charter a taxi by determining a price before you get in. I do this at night, but you can also find drivers during the day. I ask how much to get from there to where I'm going. If I like it I say ok, if not, ask someone else, there are usually a bunch of drivers hanging out at the usual spots. Make sure your driver is properly licensed (red licence plate, taxi decals, etc- bnewb posted a picture a few weeks back, I think). I pay about double what I pay the routes - so about $300-400 j, but I don't use the chartered taxis as much so other people can chime in!

I like the one love bus. I budget about $5 us a drink for however many drinks I think I want to buy and I budget a tip for Lenbert, although the tour is technically free so tipping is at your discretion. You will stop at about 6-7 bars along the west end. The tour lasts from about 2:30-6:30/7.

Ok, so it's not too expensive then. It will be a total of 5 of us so we should be able to split the fares. Also, I'm guessing some people drive without the proper licensing so I'll be sure to look out for that.

The one love bus sounds like it's a lot of fun & budget friendly. I didn't know it was that long, i figured 2 hours or so because of it practically being free.
