Our approach into Montego Bay seemed normal, flaps were down and just when it seemed as though we were going to touchdown the engines roared as we were pushed back into our seats as the airplane climbed for a go-around. The Captain came on the intercom to explain that due to the heavy rain we were unable to land. He said we would make a big circle and try again. We did and once again the captain climbed rapidly before touching down, this time the Captain explained that we were diverting to Kingston to refuel after which we would return to Montego Bay once the weather was more favorable. Refueling took about 30 minutes after which we got clearance to return to Montego Bay and by this time weather had cleared and we were finally able to land.
Getting through immigration and customs was quick and Rocky was waiting to whisk us off to Negril. Rocky had three vehicles at the airport waiting for passengers that had all been diverted to Kingston. This was Saturday April 22 and instead of arriving at Rondel Village at 5:30 like we expected it was now past 8 pm. We quickly checked in and went to the restaurant for dinner. We ate a number of meals at Rondel during the week and most of them were pretty good. My favorite meal was the stir fried vegetables which I had a couple of times, the least favorite was the waffles with bacon crisp as neither was cooked very well.
As it was dark when we arrived I had to save a little neighborhood and beach exploration till Sunday morning.
