The Race at Red Dragon

August 5th - 6th, 2017

Everyone at Red Dragon was talking about "The Race", Usain Bolt's final individual event of his career. The bar was busy and roaring with chatter when a long time regular next to me tapped my arm and said, "I don't think they realize he could lose?" I nodded and seconds later the race started. As we all now know, Bolt finished 3rd by 3 one thousandth of a second. But in that moment, Usain proved he was both human and the "peoples' champion" of track! The London crowd went wild! Bolt took an unusual "victory lap" and stopped along the way bowing, hugging, shaking hands and even taking selfies with his adoring fans. The fact he lost didn't seem to matter to anyone at all. The stunned patrons at the Red Dragon took a few minutes to digest the situation, and then another regular began clapping and the place errupted with hoots and claps and "thank you's" to Usain Bolt for being an amazing ambassador for Jamaica and an inspiration for people all over the world! You could see it in the eyes of his London fans, from children to fans three times his age! Usain Bolt is retiring from track as the "Peoples' Champion"! Thank you Usain for an incredible run!
