Blue Cave Castle// /TOP on my list of places to stay
Thought I’d shift this to positive energy, and give Blue Cave Castle the top rating it has earned.
Just a little history....
Been “hitting the rock” since 1985 and have stayed at many places over the years, from Hedo to Banana Shout and places in between. Haven’t really had any problems with any of them. Well, one, but in the whole scheme of life, not worth venting about.
In 2002, after reading all of the posts about Blue Cave Castle on negril.com, we booked our annual Negril vacation at Blue Cave Castle... LOVED IT and everything about it!!! We have returned almost every year since.
Whether our reservations have been made via carrier pigeon (close enough… the first year I sent a check via snail mail), or via the website, there has never been a problem. Using the information on the Blue Cave Castle website, I have been able to make reservations, exchange emails, change reservations, confirm reservations … oh my gosh, even make a phone call (what a huge plus just to hear Petrona’s beautiful island voice). From ownership to management to staff and back around the circle, they are all ever-present in their responsibilities to accommodate the guests at the Castle.
The rooms are well-appointed, and maintained to high standards. The yard is beautiful, peaceful, and secure. The coffee/tea provided every morning is a perfect way to start each day. Easy access in and out of the sea… snorkeling through the cave under the property... star gazing at night…
BLUE CAVE CASTLE has earned and is very deserving of being at the TOP ON MY LIST of places to stay in Negril…
Thanks to negril.com and this forum for introducing me to this amazing property. :)

Re: Blue Cave Castle// /TOP on my list of places to stay
Glad you started an new positive thread. I have always wanted to stay at the castle because previous guests are always so pumped about their stays there! Just learning the story behind it being built is enough of a reason to visit.

Re: Blue Cave Castle// /TOP on my list of places to stay
I've never stayed there but I've seen it from the water and it looked amazing.
-
Re: Blue Cave Castle// /TOP on my list of places to stay
I plan to stay here in the future! I love the fact it actually looks like a castle and not just a name.

Re: Blue Cave Castle// /TOP on my list of places to stay
I stayed for a couple of nights last year and LOVED the place.
It's very private rafting in the little caves, and it's easy water access. The cave runs pretty deep under the ground, i would say 100 feet or so, and it's a pretty irie feeling floating and swimming around down there.
I have since visited several times, and everyone is always nice to me.
I was on the second floor overlooking the Cliffs (room six I think but not sure), and I could hear the waves at night.
There was a huge overhead fan that was like a jet propeller, I loved it.
Plus it's right down the street from Bentley's ... what could be bad?

Re: Blue Cave Castle// /TOP on my list of places to stay
Well done! Great way to put a positive perspective on it.
I have only admired BCC from the water and road but really want to take a tour our next reach.

Re: Blue Cave Castle// /TOP on my list of places to stay
I've stayed at several properties on past trips & they are were all nice, but decided to try BCC for numerous reasons. So stayed at BCC for 2 weeks last October for the first time. The first 2 days I was the only guest & I felt like a princess in my private castle! Even after other guests arrived, I still felt special staying there. The entire staff without exception is wonderful, friendly, & accomodating. Returned last month & they treated me as a returning friend not just guest. I wish I were there right now!

Re: Blue Cave Castle// /TOP on my list of places to stay
kaycee, it doesn't just look like a castle, it is a castle! The Blue Cave Castle is my absolute favorite place to stay in Negril. Susan, Petrona, Teddy and the rest are like family and have been for years. There is no more unique, funky and chill place stay and it is quite simply my happy place.

Re: Blue Cave Castle// /TOP on my list of places to stay
Another thing I've noticed is the extraordinarily high customer satisfaction vibe .... LOTS of returnees to this place, and I have never met anyone grumpy there in all my visits. .... A few years ago, it used to be THEEE most affordable place you could click on the Net -- like fifty dollars a night all in -- and the place is still a good bargain .... Careful going in and out, the gate is kind of on a curve ....

Re: Blue Cave Castle// /TOP on my list of places to stay
Sbeth: it IS amazing. :) The history of the castle, and the transformation to what it is today...
Kaycee: Noticed your signature... "Where next??" I'm thinking this post may have answered your question.
gerryg123: What could be bad? ... The only thing I can think of is: wanting to make a reservation and they're booked solid for your dates...
Rinakim: maybe you can go hungry when you plan your tour... the on-site restaurant, Teddy's Hideaway, serves up some of the best meals I've ever had in Negril.
Yep, TOP on my list! :)

I think so too! The rates aren't bad either:)
-
Re: Blue Cave Castle// /TOP on my list of places to stay
Kaycee: the rates are definitely in line with what the property offers, and BCC is continually upgrading. Prior to leaving for our trip in January I had read reports of water supply problems in Negril... Not a problem at all for BCC -- they added several new holding tanks, assuring guests of adequate supply for showers, toilets, etc. In addition, BCC has added electronic wall safes in all rooms... we have never had an issue with our belongings at any property in Negril, but it is a nice feature and one we take advantage of when available.
Like you, we have stayed at many properties in Negril... we love the beach but generally end our trip with a stay at BCC... it's our wind-down. Very comfortable there... Home away from home... as Ras Walleye points out, it's more like family at BCC... Yes, RasW -- a happy place... :)

Re: Blue Cave Castle// /TOP on my list of places to stay
We didn't stay there but stayed close by. We found BCC on our first night for dinner (thanks to Ras Walleye) and came for breakfast the next 2 days . Not a cliffs fan but would definitely not hesitate to stay there for a few days. It was one of the best meals we had and the breakfasts were absolutely the best we had.

Re: Blue Cave Castle// /TOP on my list of places to stay
Good for you to support BCC as the other "complainer" started his fire and then quietly slipped into the shadows????Maye he has something to gain for the negative, unfounded statements? Ya know, competition?

Re: Blue Cave Castle// /TOP on my list of places to stay
the other guy spoke his mind, motive or just venting... but I personally prefer the positive energy that is generated by this board. It is truly more in harmony with the Jamaica we love, the Negril we love, the Blue Cave Castle we love.
Everybody sing with me....! One love, One heart, Let's get together and feel all right... :) :)

Re: Blue Cave Castle// /TOP on my list of places to stay
Remember Fuzzy? the gatekeeper. He was the coolest guy, he actually helped Steve, the owner and creator, do the building, the whole thing was built by hand! He was quiet and kind of aloof but when you got him going he would show you pictures of the first stones they ever laid and what everything looked like in the 70's. He also made all of the furniture and built ins in the whole place. Fuzzy always kept a close eye on you and made you feel safe, he always helped you cross the road. Someone told me that after he retired Fuzzy was building another castle up in the hill, does anyone know anything about Fuzzy now? The castle has a vibe unlike any other place in the world, its not sterile, modern or "spa" like but it is peaceful and stress free with great food and great swimming. We have made friends that we look forward to seeing year after year, both staff and guests and always get a hug when we show up, can't imagine that at the AI. For us that has always been the vibe we go to Negril to find. Ask about the history of the castle when you are there, I think there was a u tube video of Fuzzy giving a tour a few years ago. ??

Re: Blue Cave Castle// /TOP on my list of places to stay
I met Fuzzy way back in 1973 up in Red Ground when we were both in our early 20's. In fact Donald was his sidekick back then too. I didn't go back to Negril for over 30 years, but when I did, there he was at Blue Cave Castle. We compared stories of old and he let me know about all the people that I had met in Red Ground back in the 70's. Some had ided, others moved away and others were still around. My friend Markie took me up to Fuzzy's house (deep Red Ground) and I wouldn't say it was a castle, but his house was very nice and at that time he was doing some stonework on the property. I saw Fuzzy for aobut a half hour last visit (December 2012) and he is still doing well.
Regards,
Bob

Re: Blue Cave Castle// /TOP on my list of places to stay
We stayed at BCC and were married there in 2011. Stayed there over Christmas/New Years (2011/12), and seriously loved this place.
No witnesses for our wedding, just the two of us. Petrona went out of her way to make us feel special and very at home. Helped me get flowers/cake when nothing was open (married on 12/26, which was Boxing Day).
We had a room that looked directly out to the ocean in the middle of the property (not in the "castle" section, but in the middle area). We had a glitch with our Pastor, and they were wonderful at keeping our wedding area cleared of others.
The guests that were there were AWESOME. You can see they have a regular cult following, so many of the guests at our stay were regulars. That was wonderful.
Though we had been to JA many times before, this was truly a magical place. Petrona and Susan made everyone feel special. No issues with anything.
The best part, though, was that we really felt SAFE. The guard was friendly and on top of things, and no outsiders came in. Never did I lock my stuff up (I know, probably not smart) - but it really was like a family.
They are in a great location (No Limit was across the street, and Bentley's was a stones throw away). Would stay again in a heartbeat.

Re: Blue Cave Castle// /TOP on my list of places to stay
"they were wonderful at keeping our wedding area cleared of others"
A few years back we were at BCC and there was a wedding taking place on the property. In this case the family had all traveled to Negril, so it was a full set-up of chairs, an arch facing sunset, etc. The rest of us on the property knew to give them their space -- but, of course, we were all squirreled away in a corner, drinks in hand, peering over the wall... It was a beautiful event. After the ceremony the couple and their witnesses came towards "our" area so that they could go down by the King's Throne for photos...oops, too late to scramble...we were trapped... We just raised our glasses in a toast and said "hi, we're your wedding crashers!" :) It was fun to watch and to be their extra witnesses. What a great setting... Anyway, thanks for sharing your story... I can totally see Petrona working with you to make sure everything was special for "your" day.

Re: Blue Cave Castle// /TOP on my list of places to stay
First stayed at BCC in winter of 1999, that was our first time staying in Negril (as opposed to MoBay area) so it has a special place in my heart. I make a point to spend a night or two when I can, been back 3-4 times since then and stayed in many of the rooms. They ARE continually improving, that is true. And the cool vibe there remains.
Only negative i can think of is if you want a lot of action at your place, like a busy bar or something. BCC doesn't really have that. Or a pool. But in every way it is a unique and special choice.

I should have used the Quote Tool on my above post... a little bit of a disconnect there. Sorry. - k
