To all, this is an incredibly bad idea. To walk around streaming live video is is an obvious invasion of privacy. Even taking video of people without their permission can get you into trouble. Just because you can do something doesnt mean it is right to do so.

And since live streaming to an audience is now considered a job in Jamaica (as opposed to a video skype call), you would be considered "working" in Jamaica. The government would rightfully see you as promoting either the business you are located or promoting yourself.

This would require a work permit. They are not easy to obtain. You need to apply about 60 days in advance and would need to spend several days in Kingston to have your permit issued. The application fee is j$14,400 and if approved, the cost to work up to 3 months here is j$27,000.

On a personal note, businesses here hire RealNegril.com to do their webcasts. They are not random events. The webcasts are always announced in advance, are prominently displayed and are part of the event. When asked, we do not direct the camera on those that dont want to be caught on the video. And no one has to worry that anything they do will be re-streamed at a later date. Our webcasts are live and not recorded for rebroadcast.

We use our own media streaming server and do not use any of the "free streaming" services because of their TOS (Terms of Servicce). If you read the fine print, anything you stream using their service is recorded and can be used by them at any time for any reason in the future. We feel that is not something that we can agree to by using their "free" services.

We would never consider doing any live streaming without obeying common decency, the Jamaican laws and getting permission first.
Negril.com - For the vacation that never ends!
