    Duty free at jamaican airport

Hi everyone, I know this has been discussed before but not in any great detail. Is the duty free at the jamaican airport worthwhile? Selection and cost? or is it more worthwhile buying from airport of departure?

Anyone who has been recently have any info?

My advice is to always buy in Negril. Find the best price and spend your money in Negril. Anything at the airport seems to be very expensive, I have seen a very good Jamaican cigars "One Love" at double the Negril price at the MoBay duty free shop.
Besides, it is patriotic, isn't it ?

Carton of marlboros was $31, 6 red stripe $6. Rum cream, coco mania - all that matters to me! Booze is a bit cheaper at grocery stores and departure duty free (Sunshine) but it's really convenient to get the basics on entry...much cheaper than Canadian duty free.

One stop at Hi Lo and the ATM and I'm set for the week.

I usually carry 10K Ja or so back to the US with me so when Linston picks me up I have cash for his time, gas, beers. Then one stop at the ATM and shopping at Hi Lo

Some coffee (I get up before Seastar starts breakfast), Rum creme, sardines, crackers)

No need for duty free on the way in.

The selection sucks and the prices aren't better.

    BUY LOCAL

I agree, but there are situations where it's helpful. As a budget solo traveler, I had to use shared airport transfer, so can't count on stopping to shop, combined with an evening arrival where Negril stores would likely be closed after arriving at hotel...need a little something for a nightcap and rum cream for coffee the next morning. Plus a carton of cigs is waaayyy cheaper than in Canada.
