White Sands- question
I am thinking about staying there for a few days on my next trip, seems like such a nice place and very reasonable price-wise, anybody stayed there recently? How is the beach area at that property? I noticed some properties have such a small area that you can hardly find a space. I stayed previously at CoCoLapalm so must have walked by that place many times but I just cannot recall. Also they offer rooms on the beach side and garden side for the same price, which side would you recommend? I am assuming rooms must be pretty similar so what can make a difference are probably surroundings. Website says they offer free Wi-Fi throughout property but can you get in your room or is it only in some areas. Thanks.

I am a White Sands addict, so I will do my best to answer your questions!
I have stayed there at least once a year for the past 5 years.
The beach is quite large; not as wide as Coco (since the property is not as wide) but plenty deep. I have never had a problem finding space, shade or a lounge chair. The only time I would think it might be crowded would be during high season. That said, the properties next door are quiet, so I am sure that WS guests could use that area if necessary as overflow.
If you stayed at Coco, you might remember walking by the yellow balcony WS has in front of their bar.
Here are some views from the beach.

If you are looking at staying in their standard rooms, I recommend the gardenside rooms rather than the beach rooms. As long as crossing the street does not bother you, the garden standard rooms are newer, larger and in my opinion have a better view.

I have not used the wifi myself, but I know people use it regularly in their rooms, balconies, and at the bar/restaurant.
Hope this helps!

hi larysa, i toured white sands.
white sands does not cut it although it's around the same price as bar b barn.
the beach location is good, the rest went down the hill, old decor, doors that do not close properly, no a/c, no tv, and to top it off, just did not look safe to me.

Whoa... I totally disagree with Jitterbug, but we each have our own opinion
One correction... all rooms have A/C & the one bedrooms have TVs

sam, i didn't see air or tv!! perhaps i was shown some "basic" rooms? all i know is that i was very interested in staying there. one of the places i used to stay is jah b's, so definitely not high end travellers here, and personally, i'd rather stay at jah b's than white sands, somehow, i feel safer at jah b's!! those doors at white sands, one light push and you're in!!
for me, bar b barn wins hands down.
as you said, we each have our own opinions.

@ Sam, Thank you, great info! Now when I am looking at those pictures I do remember walking by that yellow balcony
@Jitterbug, the website says all rooms have a/c and refrigerators, no tvs but I can live with that. Bar-B Barn is nice too but more expensive and I really like location of White Sand. Thanks.

No problem Jitterbug... hey if everyone wanted to stay there, I would not be able to get a reservation
I can't compare it to barbbar or jah b's since I have not stayed there, so my opinion is only in reference to what WS offers.
Definitely A/C in all rooms as well as fridges (even in the cheapest/basic/standard rooms). The nicest rooms (one bedroom apt) all have tv's now (added in the last year I think).
I can't address your complaint with the doors... I have stayed in a few different rooms there and can't say that I felt the doors were any different than any other hotel. Seemed fine to me... but could have been a problem in the room you saw.
I have always felt very safe there... security on the beach, at the 2 entrances and doing rounds on the property at night. Feeling safe is totally subjective, so if you didnt feel safe there, then you made the right choice to find somewhere else.
Larysa - check out their website for info/pics.

I love White Sands
Have stayed there many times, and have always felt safe and taken care of. The bar always has a daily special, the staff is always friendly, and the rooms are comfy for the price. If you want a five star, this is not the place, but for the money they charge it can't be beat. I also prefer the rooms accross the road. Plenty of room, a kitchenette, wi-fi at the office, and I love falling asleep to the tropical sounds of the frogs and insects, very relaxing. The food is nothing great, but a few steps down the road in either direction will find you the best jerk chicken or curry goat on earth.
Wow, I think I just talked myself into going back!!
