    Fishing from the Cliffs

My husband and I are staying at Citronella (Cave House) from February 9–12. I've read up in several reviews and forums about fishing on the cliffs, and this is something we are very interested in and would like to try. The plan right now is to bring our own collapsable rod, reel, line (20lb test) and tackle, and stopping at the store when we get there for frozen shrimp to use as bait.

Does anyone have any experience with bringing their own fishing equipment? What type of bait and/or tackle did you use? What can we expect to catch? What should we grill up and eat, or definitely not eat?

Any regulations to be aware of?

Snorkeling equipment is also a MUST for this trip! Any suggestions of what brand to buy or how much to spend? Guessing the cheap stuff at Target isn't exactly the best route ...

Based on my experience it is pretty tough fishing from the cliffs. I have brought fishing equipment several time without much luck. I have even tried the morass park were they have, Belive it or not Tarpon and lots of tilapia. You might have better luck spear fishing or going with a "fish Killer", like Vincent. I will be there during part your stay if you want to try the reef let me know. Good Luck

I've been using this snorkel gear in Jamaica for several years now. Inexpensive and quite adequate.

I have a set of these and a set with the open-heel fins. I prefer the latter. Just so you know that there are a couple of types from the sam manufacturer.

Dang, maybe we should only invest in one rod and equipment instead of buying 2 sets, then spend a bit more on snorkel gear. We've been out before the break of dawn fishing with a local in one of those wooden fishing boats, mainly fishing for barracuda, but didn't have any luck reeling one in after 3 hours. We did get a few good bites though!

My husband always brings his fishing gear with when we're at SamSara, best time is early morning before the waves start rolling. Whatever he catches, he gives to the staff so they can enjoy for their lunch or supper....

GREAT idea! I'm sure we'll be reeling in the fish left and right.
