    New sidewalk

While riding my bicycle down the Beach Road a motorist yelled for me to get off the road and on the sidewalk, but when I got on the sidewalk the next person told me to get off the sidewalk and on the road as the sidewalk was only for pedestrians. I felt a lot safer on the sidewalk but I can understand the safety issue for mixing bikes and pedestrians. I wonder which is correct.

Probably the street is the right answer despite the dangers to the cyclist.

In the US the correct & legal place to ride would be on the road/street. On the sidewalk... nope. It's for pedestrians.

In the US it depends on the town. Some towns allow it.

In Canada we only have sidewalks for 6 months of the year, the other six months you never see them.

Ride on the sidewalk, Brother. Too dangerous on the road. The sidewalk is plenty wide.
Don't worry about getting a ticket. The police don't even give out tickets for going three times the limit on the beach road, so I doubt they will bother you.

Ride on the sidewalk and enjoy!

Yup! That's us! Pretty funny, Jamadian! Here, they cycle on the road with a bike path a few metres away. You can't win ... but as you say .. it's only for 6 months of the year anyway, so why fuss? My fave is the joggers with the baby carriage thing pushed in front of them, way out in the road - hellooooo? Are you insane? Quebec drivers cannot process that, safely.
