Just don't. No matter how seasoned of a traveller you are, they are not for you. Pay the extra few $$ and get a chartered taxi.

Ok, well you have fun then. I am not one to tell others what to do.

They were for me for 10 years, til a man pulled a knife on my wife, and stole everything we had with us. I am sure it will never happen to you though, just like I was sure it would never happen to me.

    Have fun!

Everyone will ask you if it is your first time to Negril. Do NOT say yes!!! Tell them you have been to Negril several times before and they will think you already know the drill. If they try to sell you something, do not ignore them. Politely say "no thank you, I am chilling". They respect that. Also, do not say "maybe tomorrow". They will come back the next day!! The people are friendly and amazing. Just don't walk alone after 9pm. Take a cab.

Good advice on the route taxi and the first time response - I will heed both.

A route taxi has the words "Route Taxi" on the side of the vehicle - and it states where their "route" runs.... we know all the drivers in the transportation section personally - copy down any or all of their phone numbers so you have a variety of drivers to call for you transportation needs.

They will take care of you! Let them know Negril.com sent you!

And please remember - ALL legal taxis have red license plates - there are no legal taxis that have white license plates and they should never be used - they are not licensed or insured to carry you - a paying passenger.

Call 376-3652 for Linstons Taxi...a sponsor here

The difference between a route cab and a charter cab is negligible as has been posted in other threads.

Hire someone as a charter and enjoy having a driver at your disposal. The cost difference is a very small percentage of your vacation budget.

Both charter and Route have red plates and a route statement on the door....NEVER GET INTO ANYTHING OTHER THAN A RED PLATE
