YS is quite a bit farther away but if you don't mind that , it is more scenic and having steps with railings, easier to access. There are so many things to see and do on your route. I'm not a fan of the Appleton Estates tour but there is something called Apple Valley, a sort of a Jamaican family orientated park that your children would enjoy. Middle Quarters and Scott's Cove specialize is some unique foods such as Peppa Swimps (hot, hot, hot) and fry fish and bammy. Sure you can get it in Negril but just like you'll never experience jerk like what you get in Boston Beach, the fry fish here is unique. Here's a little on YS. http://www.discoverjamaica.com/wheretogo/index.html

i liked the tour when you used to take the train through the country - stopped to get measured for clothes - and ended up at the Appleton plant - on the way back it was one big party - band and free drinks - and the clothes you ordered during the stop - were ready, wrapped and delivered to you on the train ----- if you could walk when you got off that train --- you're were strong LOL

My parents did that waaay back in the day and told me often that I needed to go to Jamaica until I did. My mom is now 90 and still travels to Jamaica through me.

I would think Mayfield would be better. More interactive, getting in and walking the falls. Bring water shoes, but I would think they would love it. A bit closer, as well, but not much difference.

YS is beautiful, but not as much to do. A few places to swim, but not to the level of Mayfield. Great place to see, but I don't think I'd drive that far unless I was going to Pelican Bar or something, which probably wont work for the kids. Not saying they wouldn't like it as well, though. Not sure you can go wrong.

YS is more developed Mayfield more natural. Walkways and stairs safer and probably easier for a six year old at YS But if you want to show the kids nature Mayfield wins.
