    Need some advice...

I am new to the "smart phone" and now own an Iphone 5S. In the past I have taken my Nikon Cool Pix camera and Windows based laptop to the island. I enjoy posting my photos to social websites such as this and FB and also emailing them while on holiday. It was hassle free loading from the Nikon to the laptop.
I now pose these questions...is it difficult to load Iphone photos to Windows laptop (laymens terms please ) and god forbid stand the chance of losing the phone or should I just take the Nikon (old faithful) and do what I am comfortable with?
    I respect your insight!

My smart phone stays in the room safe. Too much valuable information to lose on mine. My point and shoot camera has made several trips to Jamaica. It would cost much less to replace it than it would my phone. I don't take my laptop. I edit and post my pics to the computer once I get home. If it was me, I would do what I was already comfortable doing.

It is amazing him much better my pictures are once I edit them at home. They end up looking more like I remembered them after editing.

I mainly use my phone for photos. It's at your own risk though, getting it damaged, lost or stolen.

Hooking your phone to your laptop is the same as the camera. And a few bars have wifi so you could upload them to social media right on the spot. Yellow Bird has good wifi. Ask the bartender.

Just make sure your phone is in airplane mode, then switch on the wifi after that in your settings

Wife and I discussed that. Our iphone 5s's would be $700 each to replace opposed to 100 for our camera. Plus if we bring the phones we will be to tempted to check emails, facebook, etc. This is recharge time. time to unplug.

So would it be a good idea to leave iphone and then purchase a local cell phone? I have to be able to call home as I'm leaving hubby and 3 kids for 6 days!!! Or maybe just bring iphone and leave it in safe the whole time? Thanks for this post, hadn't thought of this.

If you have a US cell phone with WiFi download Majic Jack phone app and make calls home for free. I take a cheap android phone and use the Majic Jack anywhere they have WiFi. I made calls home from Mi Yard with Majic Jack all for free.

You can upload photos straight from your i phone to this site and to other sites such as FB. Sharing is caring.

As others mentioned, I take my iPhone, leaving it on airplane mode and use my hotel's free wifi. I don't take a laptop. I take my iPhone out while on hotel property, take photos, post to FB, email pics, etc. There are iPhone apps where you can call/text home for free on wifi (Talkatone & textme). I generally lock my iPhone in my room safe when going off hotel property and take a small camera and my Jamaican Lime cell phone for calling and texting. Lime phones can be bought at Mega Mart in Montego Bay, or, Rob has posted that you can buy a Lime "phone to go" at most gas stations and stores such as HiLo. There is a Lime store above Value Master, at the roundabout in Negril. These phones come with everything needed to start, even some credit. You can top up online while there (via wifi at your hotel, on your iPhone), or purchase credit at most little stores. You don't need to purchase international minutes to call home, regular Lime credits cost only 3 cents a minute to call home (same as calling local cells) and texts are 6 cents.
