I don't always agree with you Rob...but in this case I do! Crime can happen anywhere...whether at home or on vacation. Our motto is....don't bring anything you can't afford to lose. The diamond ring, expensive jewellry, laptop, etc. all stay home. I do have to admit though that I will be bringing a door alarm that fits into the door jamb just to be on the safe side while we're sleeping.

I agree with that reality 100%.......I come from the NYC/Jersey shore area where NYC was proud to have only 366 homicides????

I will not agree with "excuses" for those who Chose to rob, also if they did it once, they do it 100 times until??

They get hit Back, most thieves are weak cowards...

With that said,,,I was there in Dec and had Another great time and cant wait to get back.

Amen! Glad you got that off your chest because it needed to be heard by all on this board. Every time I mention to people I vacation in Ja, the first thing out of their mouths is ,"You don't go off the AI resort, do you?" 1'st I don't do AI and 2. In 14 years we have never had any problems because we watch our backs.....just like we would at home. Just cause your on vacation doesn't allow you to be immature, irresponsible idiot. Have fun, be safe, be aware of your surroundings and don't overindulge in anything. (ok, maybe jerk chicken) We need to stop this fear of Jamaica because it is a beautiful place filled with loving, wonderful people just like in our own home towns. There are and always will be criminals in every neighborhood, one must learn to be aware and protect oneself with common sense. Will be back in a week

Crime is not found only in negril. I live in a pretty high end neighborhood, the car break ins, home break ins, etc are fairly rampant.

South of me, in Lower Merion, a very expensive neighborhood, breaki ins are a daily issue.

It's not a negril thing, it's a world issue. People who do not have something, and are unable or unwilling to work for it will try and take from someone else. It's been going on since the dawn of time.

My wife and I have joked about our incident since it happened (what else can you do at this point... Continued anger does not help)' wondering what we were thinking in the first place. It's not like I would go into Philadelphia and get into a random car for a ride...

S*** happens. You learn from the experience and move on. My wife and I are still coming back this year, and are already counting down the days.

You can bet your sweet dippy that I will not be in a route taxi though....

I think my bippy dippy or hippy may have been victimized by autocorrect.

What is a bippy anyway? And why is it sweet?

I live in a suburb close to Toronto. It happened on a weeknight. I was home alone with the exception of two pugs. They broke in my house through a window and I was terrified. I heard bangs and bottles smashing but kept quiet as I did not want the intruders to know that I was awake. My dogs slept through this whole ordeal - not one bark. They stole my car, some cash, booze and my husbands passport. I was very lucky! The cops found my car at a school parking lot a week later but never caught the thieves. This can happen anywhere - desperate people and desperate times.

We look forward to our first non A1 adventure in Negril - 6 more sleeps. Although we are going to have so much fun, we will always be aware of our surroundings. We got married in Jamaica, brought our 2 kids there and continue to vacation in Jamaica. We love the country, we love the food, and we love the Jamaican people - so laid back, so real with so much pride.
