It's not a negril thing, it's a world issue. People who do not have something, and are unable or unwilling to work for it will try and take from someone else. It's been going on since the dawn of time.

My wife and I have joked about our incident since it happened (what else can you do at this point... Continued anger does not help)' wondering what we were thinking in the first place. It's not like I would go into Philadelphia and get into a random car for a ride...

S*** happens. You learn from the experience and move on. My wife and I are still coming back this year, and are already counting down the days.

You can bet your sweet dippy that I will not be in a route taxi though....
I live in Lower Merion...and yes break ins are happening daily here. I spent a lot of time in Negril in the late 80s and early 90s. Haven't been back in 20 years. Just booked a trip for March. I must say hat I am nervous about the trip...not so much about crime at all but more about seeing changes in Negril that will make me wish I left my love for Negril in my memories of how it used to be. But everything changes and crime happens everywhere. I wouldn't go to certain places in Philly after a certain hour and now in my little Narberth town I lock my doors everytime I go out. Ten years ago we all left our doors unlocked in Narberth! And just to note, I had some travelers checks stolen in Negril in the 1980s...never stopped me from going back. Getting married and having kids was a much bigger deterrent to visiting Negril then crime :-)
