We have a few things that we do, just to feel more secure.
Dont bring anything that we cant afford to lose.
Anything of value is either on our person, or locked in a safe.
Always lock your doors, even if you're on the beach nearby. It only takes a minute, but better safe than sorry.
Dont go off the beaten path at night.
When walking the beach at night, bring a flashlight. For visibility, but also, if being bothered, no one expects a bright light in their face. They leave you alone after that.
As many others have stated, use common sense like you would at home.
