So sad and senseless. I do agree with Flip, we thought there seemed to be less jetski traffic over Christmas. I guess it only takes one... I do hope they're able to track down the operator, whether he be a tourist or a Jamaican

I noticed quite a few folks on the skis really close to the roped off areas when we stayed at couples last year. Our first week on the cliffs, I almost never saw a jet ski, but down on bloody bay, they were rampant. 8-12 of them depending on the time of day trying to get folks out riding. Lot of boat activity, actually... The parasail boat, catamarans coming and going, water skiers, the hobie cats... They had a swimming area, but folks tended to go outside the ropes fairly frequently.

The tourist was swimming when hit. Apparently went under & drowned if the blow to the head was not the cause. Cut not bad so probably drowning, possibly had a heart attack because of the blow to the head. People worked to save him, at least keep his blood flowing to his brain. No signs of life after 30 minutes so the police told them to stop CPR. Ambulance never showed (at least as of 90 minutes later) even though I made sure it was called. Family from US coming yesterday if possible, today at latest. Wife was obviously distraught but people were comforting her as best they could. Very sad for all. NOW the swim area markers are going up. Prefer not to mention the property other than not where I am.

Last spring I was having lunch with friends at Xtabi watching the snorkelers in the bay when 2 jet skis came roaring in, circle a couple of times and out again. They were tourists and had no regard at all for the safety of the swimmers.

After speaking with someone who was on the beach at the time, it sounds as though this person received zero professional medical attention on the scene. I was told that the cops were there.... standing by watching other beach-go'ers attempting to resuscitate the man. I didn't realize that being a cop was a spectator sport.

So......the obvious question is......drumroll.....WHERE THE F IS THE AMBULANCE AND EMT in a case like this?

I had a serious talk with my kids before letting them swim the public beach, noting that they were to be mindfull of jetski's and not to leave the roped off areas. The thought of something like this happening to them or someone else makes my stomach turn somersaults , but to think that there is a complete lack of any kind of emergency medical response is maddening and just plain scary. And what's just as disturbing.... I'm willing to bet $$ there is an equal lack of concern towards finding the jerk that fled the scene.

Prayers going out to his wife and family, I just can't even imagine being in her shoes.
