Goodness, my head was spinning at reading all the hassles and fees involved in changing your plans for 2 days.

November will be my 6th trip to Negril in 2 years. I return because I feel at home there.

Clive's is good for airport transfer. You can also check with Kingsley James at www.kingsleystakecaretours.com He is the only guy we use, but we did use Clive for a tour our first time.

You will be just fine. Like going anywhere, just use common sense. Don't walk at night. And that is really cool of Bnewb to give you their cell number. See, you already know someone in Negril.

I can't stress enough, that you should avoid all the unnecessary stress of changing your plans. Chill for a couple days til your friend can arrive. And tell him Thank you for doing what he is doing. That is a great thing he is doing for the people there in Haiti.

Enjoy and remember, Negril = No Stress All will be IRIE.

Manda, you are in safe and excellent hands with Bnewb and Rob! I would trust them with my kids; actually - they're probably safer with Bnewb & Rob than with me!!!
Use common sense you would use at home and you'll be fine. Check out the board for any roll calls or boardies going down and you'll do great. I totally agree with the advice to give Mobay a miss alone - you can go with your friend before you leave if you want to. Every boardie has a great connection with at least 1 driver. I am sure the staff at where you're staying will give you good advice. My best advice? Find out when and where the webcasts are and head for wherever Bnewb and Rob are - guaranteed a good time at the right price in a safe environment. We have had so many good times in Jamaica, I can't even list them on an endless board .... but the best times, best food and best advice are usually from Rob and Bnewb (listen to mother Maggie - If they say don't go there - DON'T FREAKIN GO THERE!!!!! If they say go - be confident you'll be fine! Look forward to your stories of solo in Negril! P.S. Canoe has THE best onion rings - although I need to go back and retest that theory since the Seastar recently came out with some awesome ones!

Manda - I know that you two will have a great time in Jamaica (and give Andre a big hug for going to help out in Haiti). He sounds like a keeper! Negril if the perfect place for some R&R and great memories.

you will make lots of friends

if you were my girlfriend and looked like you look in your picture i can understand him being concerned. you will make lots of friends there but just like in the states or i assume canada you need to fend off any unwanted advances.

Go solo no worries, no need to fret at all! I have always traveled solo to Negril from my very first trip and always loved it! It is not like you are going off the grid or will be in danger, you will be in totally well populated tourist areas and can venture out as much as you like, or stay on the resort if that is what you want. My first trip I went all over the place--met tons of great people, and had not one qualm. In fact, this may be a positive thing, being able to explore for a while on your own. You don't need your friend to hold your hand, really Any staff at the resort can help you with questions you might have rob and lisa (bnewb) from this board are a wonderful support and know every little thing you would need to know about the island and it is just such a great opportunity.

I have been to Negril four times, and all but my first were solo, and plan on going solo again this November. I think you will be fine for the two days until your friend gets back, you should go and I have no doubt at all that you will have a great time and everything will be irie.

oh yeah, and cancel your room in Mobay and find something in Negril. There are plenty of nice places that don't cost much.

Seriously Manda, you are going to have a good time in Negril the first 2 days!! Tell Andre you have a couple tourist friends who are going to look out for you when you get there.

When you arrive, Negril is going to seem a bit familiar to you because of all you have seen and learned about on this website.

You will make acquaintances at your hotel or staying on nearby properties and will have people to hang out with or talk to if you need/want to.

By the time Andre gets to Negril, you will be showing him around, LOL.

    Practice answering these questions:

Your 1st time to Jamaica? "No, I've been here before."
Where are you staying? "Up the beach" (or down the beach or on the West End)
When did you arrive? "Last week"
Where is your boyfriend? "Getting something from the room" or "having a drink at the bar" or "taking a walk" (you can change your response later if you like the person)
