100 candles is at Ivans (at Catcha Falling Star). My favourite AI in JA is the Jewel Dunn's River, they treat you great but it's not Negril. Only one we've stayed at in Negril is the Riu Palace and I hate the RIU chain, too many stupid rules for vacation...

You didn't specify if this family had kids or not, but my favorite AI is Beaches Negril. Used to take my kids there when they were little (grown now) and it was so worth it because they were eating and drinking machines. Water park, snorkeling, skiing, etc., included. I've even gone to BN with my friends and left the kids at home and still had a blast. Haven't done AI for many years, though. Suppose if I tried one now, it would be Grand Pineapple.

We have stayed at Couples, we love Swept Away, great place but I know AI's tend to be frowned upon by many here on this forum. It has everything you want or need for a romantic quiet vacation. We also venture off property a lot, take in the sites and try many of the local restaurants. Ivan's for the 100 candle dinner is a must!

with kids I like Sunset Beach in Mobay - water park on the premises and loads of kid activities - so parents can relax at the swim up pool - several "restaurants" to choose from so you don't have to buffet it every meal (included) --- you can take day trips to Ocho Rios or Negril

if adults --- I would recommend Sunset at the Palms --- not a gigantic AI --- treehouses, immaculate grounds, pool, good food

Catcha is not AI but you can get 3 (or more) meals a day there --- delicious food --- also the 100 candle dinner place - plenty of other places to eat around town

Thanks, I will keep checking back. I don't use AI's, but rules and vacation should never ever happen. Yes, they have children 10-15 y/o boys. and if they are like mine, they are eating machines!

We were at Riu Palace last year. Our 13 year old, friend's 15 and 17 year olds, a toddler and an infant all in our group. The kids had a blast. I didn't feel that there were rules that in any way impacted our vacation. The staff was GREAT to all the kids. My 13 year old wandered about freely, choosing to often eat lunch by himself. I think he might have been flirting with some of the girls on staff...so no mom at lunch! haha We were there for a wedding, so the AI was the only option for our daughter and son in law, considering we were bringing 25 newbies along for the trip. A 13 year old growing boy was in HEAVEN as he could eat as much as he wanted...whenever he wanted! LOL

As we were leaving, it was apparent that he had chatted up most everyone that worked there as people were coming out of the woodwork to say goodbye. At that moment, I knew beyond a doubt that he was as much in love with Jamaica as I am.

The kids were never bored and had a blast! Good luck to your friends.

If they've got the bucks, I'd choose Beaches Negril. I've never been there, but have done a lot of research and it sounds like a winner. Our Juta bus stopped there to let off some people on our way from the airport once and we got out because we needed to use the restroom and from what we saw, it looked magnificent.
