I haven't looked at the puddle jumper, but at 3 years old, kids are ready to learn how to swim, not just sit in the water. That's why that swim tube is so great, because the kids are learning how to swim with it on. Sorry if I sound offensive, but I think it's so important for kids to learn how to swim at an early age.

THe puddle jumper is a minimal life jacket, it does not impede the doggy paddle at all. Their entire body is in the water.
