This one made me laugh: I pray to god a tourist came up with that and not a local because in all my visits to Negril -- including approximately 50 route-taxi rides -- I have NEVER seen a Jamaican tip a fellow Jamaican. And I mean NEVER.

    Just sayin'.

The "cheap" part comes from this........the route cab passenger is getting maybe 4 - 5 K a year and trying to send the pickney to school on that...tip?

You on the other hand are spending almost a years wages on a "vacation"...........

    Yes, David.

Hard for anyone who hasn't lived in the country outside of Negril to really appreciate just how much difference there is between a fair standard of living and the regular tourist's standard of living. You can tell a Jamaican all day and night that you don't have any money but he sees you staying in $100+ US a night hotels and paying $500 or more for a ticket to get there.

Yes, gerry..... you should know better.

Thanks Accompong. I guess I will see who our hotel uses and will probably end up paying more this trip but that's still ok with me because I think we have been paying to little anyway. I of course like paying little as possible but also want to make sure rate is fair for the driver and I am not paying waaaay to much. We usually only take a trip to grocery at roundabout and a few trips to snorkel and breakfast at Xtabi. Just want to use correct system and get reasonable price and safe trip. 29 more days woot woot! At this point any price sounds good just get me out of this cold!

The rates that Steve posted are the same that Linston charges.

Very reasonable when you consider the comfort factor.
