    Re: I love route taxis

I said random car. I get into taxis at home as well. Generally, they are yellow, or very clearly marked and have GPS systems/medallions to identify them as such. And, I'm sorry to assume that you have the particulars of our incident that the taxi was stolen? Did you have access to our statement to the police or follow up after the incident that i was not privy to? Possibly access to the constable with whom we have followed up since then?

I was robbed by a person, in a legitimate red plate taxi, purporting to be a route taxi for charter.

Again, thanks for letting me know the particulars of my incident. You were a big help. It's a shame the constables did not have that information at the time.

Sorry. I had thought that the taxi you were in had been stolen. Have you heard any follow up? Did they get the guy?

I'm not trying to minimize your experience, and very sorry if I had. I can't even imagine seeing my wife threatened like that.

Steve positive tours, thank you, thank you!!!!! You have been added to my list!!! Thank you so much for that information that is all I really needed was an approx cost. This will probably help many who want an honest price. We are coming down with a group of 20 in March and would be more than happy to use you. Smith, thank you as well and thankfull for your input as to what to expect to pay for drive by charter.

So if someone in a cab at home robbed you folks, would you advise against using US taxis?

Just curious because like you said, you were robbed by a person in a "legitimate" red plate taxi, sorry for your loss but it could happen to anyone in any country using a taxi "chartered" or randomly picked up.

We at Steve Positive Tours are more than happy to inform you of our prices from point A to point B and we are sure that they're other drivers that would be happy to share their prices as well.

Say for eg. you want to leave Coco la palm to Ricks Cafe for 2 persons round trip that would be approximately $20us.

Another eg. if you were to leave Rockhouse to Cocolapalm for dinner 2 persons round trip that also would be approximately $20us. To take you round trip from off the cliff to go shopping at Time Square that too would be $20us round trip.

You can always pay as you go, you can pay for one way or at the end of the trip, we know the way things are so we are trying to help our clients vacation to be memorable. Our prices remain in full effect until further notice, please feel free to call us for more info on pricing call us at 1-876-372-8354 or email stevepositiveja@gmail.com
Thank you Steve for your rates, I do have to say that while reasonable it's not "identical" to what two people would pay for a route taxi.

    $100 J/person/leg x8(round trip)=$800J VS $20USD.

That quickly adds up and is a far cry from the identical rates people were saying private drivers charge when two or more people are considered.

    Blake,

Your information is out of date. It is j$130 per leg now. So it would be j$1020 (if you have the correct change) or about us$11 vs. a us$20 point to point, door to door private ride with no changing of vehicles necessary and no additional risks involved. Since there would be 8 legs as you count them, that works out to be slightly more than about a us$1 more per leg. One dollar.... maybe you could consider it a tip...

No, it seems you do not understand my view at all. I really wish you would read what I have stated in these threads a little more closely before putting word in my mouth that I have never said and never meant. Here is a quote from November that I re-quoted here once already:

"As I have stated, the majority of route taxi operators are hard working, honest and decent drivers trying to make a living. But you, as a visitor, do not have the years and years of daily experience with the route taxi system that all Jamaicans living here have - it is second nature to them. They instinctively know which taxis to use and not to get in, they were taught this as a child. There is no visitor to the island that has that same ability, and sometimes that even fails experienced Jamaicans."

Perhaps you don't know the Route Taxi rates have gone up. There hasn't been a "$100 leg" in donkey years. You can check that out here.

    http://www.ta.org.jm/documents/Fares...stmoreland.pdf

Considering that a Route Taxi might be full of people (sometimes 6 or more) then you have to stop and let people off and pick up new people etc. until by the time you get to your restaurant a half hour could have passed.

Steve (and other Charter Drivers) will take you directly there and stop at an ATM if you need etc.

Seems like a lot of people use outdated prices, articles, links, etc. to further their opposition position on using a Route Taxi instead of a Charter Driver.

    Just my opinion.

That's hardly a negligible difference over the course of a week.

$11 VS $20 is almost a 100% increase assuming two people, or almost four times as expensive assuming one person.

Let's say you take conservatively 2 trips a day(I know the last time I was there I was making 3-4 round trips a day to check out different places) that's an extra $126 over the course of a week.

This is all assuming that every driver is going to charge $20, I had drivers quote me $15 one way before, the wild fluctuation in pricing means that you're eventually going to be paying more than $20 for round trips.

The rates that Steve posted are the same that Linston charges.

Very reasonable when you consider the comfort factor.
