Don't ever forget that most travel forums are in the business to SELL ADVERTISING and PROMOTE tourism as primary purpose.
Let that fact sink in and you will understand where many on this board and other boards are coming from...$$$$$

BTW..No cabin fever here in LA...Clear skies and 80's today

    Kim,

Okay, its not cabin fever in your case... (grin)

Websites dedicated to destinations are generally created to help promote that destination. That would seem like a most logical assertion. And as our number 1 guideline states:

    1) Since this is the Negril Message Board, we would like the topics to try and reflect Negril and Jamaica tourism. This is meant to be a rather common sense guideline.

Although we appreciate all the visitors to the Board, if we allow people to post discussions about Cancun, where to dine in San Francisco, pictures of sunsets in New Jersey or their car for sale in Denver, the Negril Message Board would quickly lose its focus.

The reason this travel site, Negril.com was created I answered in an interview some years ago. Here is why I created Negril.com:

"I have been visiting Negril since 1985 and was in Negril for Hurricane Gilbert (on the beach at the Native Son Villas). Gilbert showed me the strength, resourcefulness and love of the Jamaican people, and I felt an obligation afterwards to use the rewards that I had been given to benefit the people of Jamaica in anyway I could.

After owning a successful computer hardware and software company in Columbus that I started in 1981, I saw that the Internet was going to have a huge impact on the world, specifically in the area of travel. I went through a divorce in 1992 and with the advent of the Internet, this created the perfect opportunity for me to refocus my life's direction and develop my dream of Negril.com.

When I moved to Jamaica, there was no internet yet on the island. I had to call Miami on a cellular modem through what was then TOJ (Telecommunications of Jamaica).

This was a self funded endeavor, since the concept of getting sponsors on the internet in 1994 and 1995 was as foreign as the concept of the internet to the businesses in Negril who had never even seen a computer yet.

In November of 1995, Info Channel became the first Internet provider on the island and I had the very first commercial account they sold.

I took my laptop to the businesses all over Negril, giving most of them their first glimpse of the Internet It was what is known as a "hard sell". With no computer suppliers or technicians available on the western end of the island, I had to handle all these services myself, which allowed me to become familiar with most of the owners of the businesses in Negril.

This was a great learning experience for everyone involved.

Beingee's Negril.com was formally created in late 1995, Beingee's LTD. being the company name. From those early days, Negril.com has had many firsts for websites in Jamaica.

In 1997, Negril.com started the first chat room from the island of Jamaica. In December 1997, Negril.com had the very first webcast live from Jamaica from Roots Bamboo on the beach in Negril.

In 1997, Negril.com started the first message board on the island, the Negril Message Board.

These were all part of the dream I had been developing from the early 90's to help promote Jamaica and Negril on the Internet."

For Negril.com, pure and simple, it comes down to a responsibility of information and getting the correct, factual information out there. People can all speculate about something, but it doesnt mean its the truth.

another point to look at is the fact that many people who post here are in love with Jamaica or Negril, ( I included)...and they tend to "stand up" to anything bad said about either . and tend to have a negative image of the poster.....a lot of these members have dropped off in posting....and with Rob "managing the herd", you should not be dismayed, in reality not much can be said negative about Jamaica or Negril, if you really know either...
its not Kansas but we really didnt want that, did you??
    Come and Have Fun.......

The purpose of this sight is to promote tourism in Negril....so no, you cant say anything here that will make Negril look bad. There are other Negril related sites where people can speak more freely.

Yes i am hostile. I am hostile that i can't afford to come until next year. Living in -10 degrees since about Christmas makes me hostile. I cant ride my motorcycles for 2 month's. That makes me hostile. If i could only make it to da rock, my hostilities would melt away as fast as the first Red Stripe directly outside the airport doors. Mr luvjabad, you are correct, this IS the Internet. If you don't like this site, you are free to move on to the site that speaks more freely.
