US visitors ... anyone use their T Mobile phone in Jamaica?

T Mobile now offers cheap calling back to the states with free texting. We have gotten good reception in MoBay and Negril but NO reception in Treasure Beach. T Mobile people - please let me know your cell reception experiences in Jamaica.

I've used my TMobile phone in MobBay and Negril and found the reception pretty good. I no longer use it because the first time I did I got hit with over $200.00 in roaming fees.

Yes. But I have a $50 pay as you go plan. I added an extra $10 to it before my trip and no roaming fees.

I use my T-Mobile phone in Jamaica every year, but I had to call T-Mobile to request an unlock code. Once I had the code, I unlocked my phone, which allows it to use a Digicell Sim Card. All of my contacts remain on my phone, but I buy a Digicell Sim card and keep adding minutes as I need them. I never wanted to experiment with the hundreds and even thousands of dollars of roaming and data fees others have experienced.

    Peace and blessings,

T-Mobile new plans include at no extra charge unlimited texting within Jamaica and back to the USA for free, unlimited data at speeds of 128k for free, and calls within Jamaica and back to the USA are .20 per minute. No unlocking, no new Sim card, and you are using your USA phone number so no confusion for the people back home. No roaming fees, no tricks, no surprises. These plans start at 50 a month for a single line and include unlimited calls text and data within the USA. Family plans start at 80 for two lines, then additional lines beyond that with the same unlimited service for just 10 bucks more. And.... No contracts!

Yes, I happen to work for T-Mobile, feel free to PM me if you have questions.

HarryS ... can you do some research and let me know what towers TMobile uses in Jamaica? If they use towers near Treasure Beach then I'm guessing our TMob phone will have a signal on the SW coast. The new plan for JA travel sounds perfect - BUT if we don't get a signal in Treasure Beach we wont be able to use the free texting

This might be a dumb question but does this mean I can access the internet for free from my hotel (Shamrock)
    that doesn't have WIFI?

I used my verizon first day I was there and got a text from them the first night that I had racked up $50 of charges already. Needless to say I went to the digicel store the next
day and bought a local phone and then used my laptop at the hotel for internet use.
