    sunset on the beach ???

well, i booked a hotel for my trip later this month..

anybody stay at sunset on the beach recently?
    good or bad comments?

i ended up gettin it for $75 a night total, and since i couldnt find anything else i was more familiar with, i went ahead and booked it..

now i read on trip advisor, not just one but MANY comments recently about room break ins and theft?

i am a little nervous about it now..
what are ways i could keep my stuff safe? should i consider bringing my own document size safe for camera/ipad/phones/documents and chain to toilet? sink?
what are other thnings i should consider?
am i being a little crazy?

    your opinons?

was there a lot last week as mi cuz stayed der for a week.......
he started at Jamaica Tamboo and couldn't handle the noise from Las Vegas.....
so he checked out Sunset, Travelers, Shields, Negril Beach Codos, Bar b Barn, etc.......
and thought Sunset was the best out of the bunch.......and he was right.......
the only thingy was they couldn't get him a refrig($8 night) cause they were all taken cause the place was full......and couldn't get a remote for the TV for the same reason.......
he paid $90 a night which mi thought was quite a bit.........it did include breakfast though
mi know the rates get as low as $55 a night during the summer
mi stayed der when it was Coral Seas Beach and it about the same as then......not much different
they do have a shuttle that goes up and back to der sista property Sunset on da Cliffs.....
overall you can't go wrong at $75 a night mi think during high season.......

Re: sunset on the beach ???

Got back yesterday from 2 weeks at Sunset on the Cliffs - making it 6 total weeks at that resort in the past 13 months. No problems whatsoever! I disagree with you on this one, Gerry. I know you know people who have alleged experiences, but after 6 weeks, I wonder if there isn't something deeper there.

The properties are safe and secure - just don't be an idiot and leave your safe open, or your doors unlocked. The room safes can easily fit a mini laptop with a chill mat, and still have room for a fair amount more - at least on the cliffs. They are the same type of safes I have seen at other properties, and I suppose if you really wanted to, you could break into one, but you'd have to be a well-equipped pro! It would take a serious drill and possibly a jack-hammer to get into those suckers. And if you had a master key, there would be a whole lot of unsafe safes in Negril!

If you would feel any better, PM me and I can give you the contact info for Samuel Henry, who manages both properties, and is responsive to the needs of all guests. Express to him your concerns, and discuss it.

I take the info on Trip Advisor with a rather large grain of salt. What really happened is usually not nearly as exciting and grabbing as what people post. Sometimes a bartender or chamber maid ticked off a guest, or just didn't click, and people lash out with exaggerated negative stories. You know? Perhaps there have been incidents at these properties, but I am sure they are within the stats of other beach and cliff properties. Nowhere is 100% secure, not even home.

We have done stupid things there and never had a problem. Left money on the bed. It was ALL there, neatly placed where we would see it on the night stand when we got back from the beach. Went out to see the moon on the cliffs one night, and the security guard was on us in a flash - there was even a guest who stumbled out to the cliffs at night and the security guard had his assistant patrol while he stayed with this guy - waiting patiently until he woke up when he passed out on one of the deck chairs.

Take the usual precautions discussed on this board regularly, and go to the source!

On this one, I recommend you speak to Mr. Henry by phone or email before and express your concerns and the reasons. The owner, June Romeo, isn't always there, but Samuel is. Either one would be happy to address your concerns.
