One of the difficulties that I always seem to see about Jamaica is that as soon as you have a "good ting gwan" some unscrupulous people will mash it up for you if they can.

The long time, reputable Jet Ski operators are going to suffer from the actions of a few and that in a struggling economy is a crying shame.

It's a shame to see honest vendor’s livelihoods jeopardized by the unfortunate actions of a few. I can’t understand why they don’t develop a dedicated PWC lane(s) that forces the vendor and renters to enter and exit only at these points and they cannot operate within (let’s say) a kilometer from shore. This would keep them away from most areas on the beach and give peace of mind to people out swimming and snorkeling.

I agree that some rules and regulations would help but...

This is Jamaica we are talking about!

You can't get cars to drive under 80km or stay in prescribed lanes on the road. Jamaicans are not big on rules. When you add desperation to the equation then all bets are off. It is often said that only a Jamaican would jump a 10ft fence to get into a free concert.

I am not bashing Jamaicans now. I am only stating what I have observed over the past 30+ years in Jamaica.

The coral reef, which is VERY negatively effected by polluting hydrocarbons will be relieved. That reef is vital to the entire ocean ecosystem in Negril. Despite the disruption to a few vendors and there onterauge , this ban is arguably in the best long term interest of everyone. I personally hope the ban is permanent.

Two stroke PWCs are a thing of the past.

As I've mentioned my friend has a very large water craft rental here in St. Augustine.

All his skis are now four stroke.

4 strokes are much much better but still emit hydrocarbons that damages the very sensitive ecosysytem. Especially older 4 strokes that might for example, be using oil. I stand by my statement.

True. I don't deny what you said but jet skis and outboards aren't going away.

When I got to Negril first time there were NO POWER VESSELS only canoes....

Problem is those days are gone...unless you and everybody else want to stop going to Negri and wanting water sports
