    stomach remedies?

Doing some final packing and trying to lighten the load. Was wondering...can you buy stuff like Immodium, Kaopectate or Pepto Bismol in Negril if needed. Always buy the stuff at home and pack it and it just usually expires cause I never seem to need it. Hate tempting fate by not packing it though....

All the pharmacies carry these products and their generic equivalents... no worries...

Yes available in Jamaica, but if I am suffering severe stomach distress I want medicine ASAP. (Based on several experiences with travelers diarrhea - apparently my tummy thinks it belongs to a pampered princess!) Roaming around, going to a couple of stores to find what I need would not be a great idea. Just my 2 cents! I'd give up packing an extra piece of clothing over tummy meds.

I agree. I think of it as insurance -- pack 'em and you won't need 'em. That said, my vote is for Pepto Bismol tablets. They are easy to pack, have a long shelf life... and Pepto works. Just my opinion based on my personal experience. - k

I pack them year after year as well...just in case. I just looked at the Immodium tablets I have and they expired a couple years ago. Such a waste of money to buy new ones again only to throw them out later. I do have some Pepto tablets packed and hopefully that will tide me over if need be. Friends of ours are there right now and her husband has been staying close to the room as he is not feeling well. That's what got me thinking about this. Never been sick in the 15 trips we've been....hopefully we can continue our record.

Personally I wouldn't ever travel without Immodium, Benadryl and Tylenol. Those small pills don't add any weight and travelling without, well could spoil a day or two

Would pack something, wouldn't care to have a problem then have to get to store.

Always pack all those things but just looked and my Immodium has expired...think I'll make one last trip to the drug store to buy some new stuff just in case. I just know if I don't...then we'll prob need it! Maybe I should pack an umbrella too to scare off all this rain Negril has been getting!!

I'd probably take a chance with the expired stuff, unless it expired a looong time ago.

Just a thought for your friends in Negril right now... drink fluids..could be dehydration. Room temp 7-Up (or Sprite) with soda crackers... Sometimes it's not a bug.... again, based on experience.

As for the umbrella...it's that insurance theory again. - k

FYI, Lomotil which is prescription here in the States (for the belly runs)...is available at the pharmacy without a prescription. Just go to the pharmacist and he will hook you up.

Also, ginger tea...made with fresh ginger...is also quite the miracle for an upset tummy.
